That parking job is so bad it pretty much had to be the work of both a cop—and a dog.

Do they park on the street in front of your driveway or actually in your driveway?

Ditter, glad you liked it!

You’ve been around here longer than me and somehow I’ve never run into you. Glad it finally happened.

[in my defense, I did lurk for more than a year before registering to join the fun]

I’m sure if you post a youtube video of those dogs parking in your driveway, it will go viral. You have the makings of a youtube hit, there.

(Seriously, your driveway is private property. Maybe put up a sign to remind people of that?)

1. Call a tow company.
2. Call the dog catcher.

I came home one night to find a strange SUV in my driveway, blocking my access to the garage. I hooked up a tow strap and dragged it out onto the street. Problem solved.

I have been here even longer than my sign up date tells you. I got webtv in the fall of 1997 I lurker for a few months and signed up with my real name. In August of 1998 I changed to Ditter, which is baby talk for sister.

I have seen your post and if you took that dog photo, you have just become my favorite freeper. ; )

Don't forget that old saying...

"Let parking dogs by."

Parking in your drive is easy. Park behind them.

I had a better solution...I towed their vehicle out into the street. Don't get between me and my garage.

Here's a good place to start: Prosser.

Even with next day delivery that would take too long. When I found a strange vehicle in my driveway I simply hooked up my tow strap and dragged it out into the street. Took me less than five minutes. By far the fastest solution.

In California, all you have to do is post a sign warning that unauthorized vehicles parked at that location will be towed at the car owner’s expense. As long as the sign includes the contact information for the towing company, then you are able to enforce.

Here is what the City of Mountain View states on their Police Department web page:

Business and apartment owners may restrict parking on private property to employees, customers or residents. Cars can be towed from private parking areas only if tow-away zone signs are posted at each entrance to the parking lot.

Often property owners hire a tow company. Owners may authorize the firm to tow violators without a request from the business. This means tow companies may drive by, at any time, to spot violators and collect tow income. Otherwise, property owners must initiate a tow. In either case, your car might disappear without warning, at your expense, if you violate posted signs on private property.

Take a long view. Become unattractive. Figure out how to make the most trouble at lowest cost. If you have to use the govt, figure out an angle that uses their perspective.
Use council, county, state or congressional reps who depend on you for your vote — they have staff dedicated to meeting constituents’ concerns.

Did that apply to single-family homes/driveways that were otherwise not open to someone the public?

As far as I know it applied to every parking space. What difference would it make anyway? Private property is private property.
