On this day in 1996, Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, along with our armed forces, successfully repelled an alien invasion that could have wiped our very existence off this Earth. It's amazing to believe it's been 19 years already, but not a day goes by that I don't think about it.

Whitmore was a better president than James Dale

The ideas and premise of the response was what the movie was about, Americans coming together to fight an invasion.

For some reason one of favorite non-stars in that movie is the idealist liberal girl with the big eyes on top of the building. She is with the other hippie types hoping to ‘bond’ with the aliens and then gets blown away to smithereens.

That was the last movie I saw in a movie theater.

19 years.

I just haven’t come across a movie I wanted to pay to see.

I saw a panhandler the other day who had a sign that said “My ex-wife was visited by an alien”

Does that have something to do with what happened in 1996?

This reminds me of a guest whom Clyde Lewis had on his radio show (a kind of bargain-basement Coast-to-Coast).

The guest claimed to be a Marine Corps veteran of the US forces on Mars.

But no one called up to thank him for his service.

Yes, that was one highlight in the film. That and the long haired scientist played by the actor who portrayed Data on Star Trek NG. “As you can imagine, they don’t let us out much”.

And how the audiences cheered when the aliens blew up the White House b/c of Clinton—Imagine how that scene would play first-run today! Har!
