Tuna Fish.

Tuna Fish.

Like Rino’s they come packaged and present themselves for appeal.

I’m not sure anymore if I want to buy “Chunk” or “Solid”, given their labels it’s hard to tell the difference. And really, what’s the difference between “Chunk” and “Solid”? What’s the difference in the meanings of the words they chose?

Why can’t they be clearer?

“Prepackaged for your convenience and ready for your consumption.”

There’s another thing I hate.

How many turns/half turns does it take you to open a can of Tuna?

Why?

That all sounds good, especially the rye bread.

But I’m a Miracle Whip guy so hold the Hellmans.

We can our own albacore. Store-bought can’t compare.

We always refer to it as Ahi. It is plentiful and fresh here. We used to cook it all the time but got a bit burned out on it. Still eat tons of it raw in Poke and Sashimi.

Need to come up with new preparations. That and keep the protions reasonable. It seems to be very high in protein, a much smaller serving than most other fish will fill you up.

>>”But words and labels seem to have lost their way while we feel the sting in ways unimagined.”<<

For mild, medium, hot & extra-hot, it’s often a marketing gimmick to have a range of labels that in taste do not necessarily differentiate (the 1st two), or if they do, the difference is not that noticeable on the palate.

But the label itself is aimed at attracting a wide range of (”fussy”) consumers, and differentiating the product from competitors.

I’ve so far not seen a “solid” label for canned tuna in Australia. We’ve “chunks”, and sandwich tuna (more shredded - hmm forget the actual label for this one).

Also, we have canned tune in Springwater, Olive oil, Brine, or mixed Olive Oil (or something similar).

There is also a wide variety of ‘flavoured’ tuna, e.g. Mexican, Curry, Italian, Basil & Tomato, lite-mayo, etc.. etc..

I like Tuna Fish. More the ones in a glass jar sold in delis here than canned ones in supermarkets here. The ones in a glass jar sold in Delis taste more fresh.

I think brand makes a difference too in quality. In my experience so far, even the ‘home-brands’ in certain supermarkets here are fairly good quality.

Try adding a small amount of finely chopped tomato....adds a great layer of flavor.

“I can’t stand going to a fast food joint and asking for a small drink and they say “We don’t have a small”. What ? “We have medium, large and extra large” What?”.”

Yeah, well stay away from Starbucks, their sizes make even less sense.

Ok, so, you’re like in Australia and the probably have tuna fish canned with Fosters as well.

If they don’t, maybe they should.

Just having fun.

Thanks, will try it. Sometimes Colby Jack cheese strips work too.
Oddly enough this is an area where bacon does not. (Hoping lightning doesn’t strike ...).
It’s like Charlie Tuna says, “You’ve got everything else. Go away!”

not like fresh tuna? I don't know. Before fish got so expensive, I would buy a sampler of what looked good. I knew which was which after I had baked it basted with half butter and half margarine and whatever herbs looked good. I just didn't like the tuna.

I could try it again sometime, I suppose. I used to love swordfish but it doesn't taste as good as I remember (Atlantic). I first had it on Fisherman's Wharf. We could only get it frozen back then. Now it's fresh (and frozen which I only buy in a pinch). I like the steaks and the oily part by the skin. I used to charcoal broil fish for my mom when I was still home. I bought a small charcoal thing and I start charcoal with paper and twigs because I hate the smell of starter. it takes just a little longer.

The last batch of charcoal never heated up to cook a burger, felt porous. So I haven't tried any more for years.

I am crazy for good scallops, oysters and smoked sturgeon. I really developed a taste for fresh salmon and the Canadian pond raised um trout is red and tastes like salmon.

I'm starving for some good fish. I eat it cold until it is gone, takes 2 or 3 days.

Forgot catfish. Crazy about that. Too much work to bread and deep fry but that is best.

Talking about the escapees. I thought a good possibility was that Matt might kill the smaller guy to have a better chance. Now they got him. I was hoping they would kill them rather than capture.

Is it Pacific caught or Atlantic? Call me silly, but I am concerned about the radiation from Fukushima. (My dogs are CRAZY about tuna & they live their lives at such an accelerated pace.)

What happened to me happened once before and I assumed that I had tuna stuck in my throat that dissolved after awhile. Turns out it was swelling. What happened to you sounds different. I’d sure have it checked out.

I was raised in a “Hellmans” household, and literally didn’t taste miracle whip until I was in my early 20’s. The minute I did, I went home and said “mom, WTH?”

Nervermind that you are all over the map.

I love it by the way.

Your challenges/adventures in food preparation could fill a novel.

I’m sure your husband loves to discuss these things with you.

That's a hiatal hernia, alright. Whenever it happens while I''m eating, nothing helps, just have to wait it out. But I know it'll happen again later, usually awakening me at night. That's a different type of constricting, spasm-like pain. Some say it feels like a heart attack. It took years before I discovered that gulping water makes it go away. My sister-in-law had several surgeries before feeling relief. I opt to gulp water.
