The Senate only needs 51 votes for passage under TPA not the 2/3 needed to pass a treaty. That’s the real reason for TPA. it virtually guarantees passage of TPP. The supporters never explain why this is added. They are either deceived or lying. Is this one of your straw man myths?

Thanks for the reminder. Perot was correct and NWO Bush was a lying traitor.

TPP is not going to happen.

Great, so let’s save a pile of taxpayer money and kill TPA now.

No. TPA requires Congress be involved in the entire negotiating process.

That’s false. TPP has already been negotiated for six years without Congressional oversight. All that’s left is doting the i’s and crossing the t’s. To suggest otherwise is simply misdirection by Team Cruz.

And the last TPA expired in 2007. That’s why we need it, to assure Congress’s involvement and to give transparency before a vote.

I think Cruz is trying to assure that the next President has TPA. The Dems won’t let that happen if they get control of the Senate.

I prefer the Constitutional way, with a two thirds vote to ratify a treaty.I haven’t bailed on Cruz yet, but the deeper he digs, the less committed I am.

It cuts short the votes and the time that has been in place for over 200 years.

Oh it will give “Transparency”.

Oh so that’s the new B.S. line?

Rest assure Freepers....PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THE B.S. LINE about “Transparency”

That’s a ridiculous argument. You REALLY BELIEVE OBAMA, BOEHNER AND MCCONNELL????

Please do not tell me you are THAT GULIABLE???

Yeah they love you like Barney the Dinosaur.

Because Tariffs and Revenues are involved in trade agreements, they are considered agreements and not treaties. Revenues and tariffs require the passage by the House and Senate.

Treaties have, in some cases threatened our sovereignty, which is what happened under the Medelin Case that Cruz won before the Supreme Court. Medelin murdered two young girls in Texas in 2009. Mexicio tried to use a treaty to shield him from the death penalty. Cruz defeated the President, the U.N and the World Court in upholding the sovereignty of our laws.

If only tariffs and revenues were involved it would be an agreement. As soon as you add in immigration or establish governing organizations you have formed a treaty, no matter what name you give it.

The U.S. is not joining any part of the agreement that involves immigration. I’ve heard that clarified by Cruz and others. Countries do not have to sign on to each component of the agreement.

So I am told there are things which cannot be in the final TPP.

What if they are?
What if Mitch decides to bring it to the floor for a vote anyway?
No amendments allowed.
Only a 51 vote threshold.
How many Republicans in the Senate? 54
Dems. 44
Ind. 2
There are enough to be bought off to counter the few GOP members not voting for TPP.

You know this how? Besides, until we see the TPP, we don’t know what it will be. The prudent course is to wait for the TPP before we give away the opportunity to vote it down.

Cruz said we were not signed on to that part of the agreement concerning immigration. He has read TPP as it is currently written.

I say good for Ted. I’m glad he has the conviction to see what this TPA bill has been turned into by the Democrats and RINO’s (Boehner/McConnell) and the gonads to stand up and admit his change of heart over the bill.

He still stands on principle. He still stands for doing what’s right. And he’s not afraid to come out and speak the truth, knowing people like you aren’t going to believe anything he says any way.
