In addition the House version of TPA has adopted the Cruz/ Sessions language on Immigration.
I think the opposition to the TPA bill has been fueled by the intentional misinformation and confusion that has been unleashed on the public. The more I studied it, the more I saw the merits.
The US Constitution grants CONGRESS the authority to regulate commerce with foreign nations. It SHOULD NOT be ceding its power to the Executive, and then allow itself only a yes or no (which is always yes by the way).
They’re always trying to get around that pesky Consitution.
A lot of articles about this issue do not seem to understand the difference between TPA and TPP. Ted Cruz explained the difference very well recently.
Never give obama and the democrats an inch. They will take and destroy the country if they have that opportunity.
With Maobama, it doesn’t matter what it says. Whatever he says it is is what it will be. I totally reject this deal.
“Congress may withdraw TPA at any time if the President fails to follow all terms set forth in TPA including reporting to Congress at the discretion of at least three different congressional committees.”
What nonsense. Congress can only do this BY LAW, which would then be vetoed by the president (if it even got that far). So deceptive!
Is there some other riders on this bill that might be objectionable? Or is this a clean bill?
Obama trade is bad for Jobs. Obamatrade allows his communist regime to negociate TPP. Anyone for obamatrade should be ashamed and will be politically damaged. Why are we allowing obama trade? it is RINO madness.
Apparently, GOP now stands for Give Obama Power. I’m so sick and disgusted with them. I’ll hold my nose to vote for Cruz, but even that is against my better judgement at this point.
You do understand this is about TPA (the bill about procedures FOR the trade deal) and not TPP (the trade deal)?
If you carefully read the particulars of the article, you’ll see that TPA does the opposite of giving Obama power. I like that it mandates the 60 day public disclosure before a vote can take place. It also requires that Congress be involved throughout the negotiations and sets restrictions on what the President can and can’t do. Any breach of the set parameters of negotiations renders the agreement null and void.
The vote for TPP will not be held in all likelihood before late 2016, and with so many up for re election it will be defeated. Never have we had this much distrust of a President and the scrutiny that this agreement will receive will be unprecedented.
The bonus of passing TPA will be that the next President will have it for almost 5 years. The Dems won’t let that happen if they take back the Senate.
You fail to understand that this is written into the TPA bill, so it WILL BE able to be withdrawn if terms aren’t met.
Hence the need FOR the TPA, to begin with.
He offers no explanation as to why Obama has broken so many wrists and arms to get TPA passed. None, Nada, zipo. So I am to believe that Obama is crushing dem heads to rein in his power? Horsesh-t.
It’s a nice straw man. What should require a 2/3 vote in the Senate for passage is changed to 51 votes with the TPA. Why don’t the supporters ever address this little sleight of hand?
Did you read the article? Because if you did, you would see that is exactly the point FOR the TPA.
You can't unlink them, no matter how hard you try. If TPA passes, then so too will TPP, and then there goes the ship.
Never mind the inconvenient fact that TPP has a five-year secrecy clause.
