You've been around long enough to know how things work in Congress, and how corrupt it is. McConnell, Boehner, and Obama are huddling right now trying to figure out how to subvert the will of the people, and here you are buying their snake oil.
You know better than that!
So NAFTA was passed with the help of TPA?
Who are you to determine what gets discussed on this site.
Does it make you happy that many Americans will lose their job over Obamatrade.
Yep.
“I think TPA strengthens Congresss role by requiring their involvement from the beginning of negotiations and putting restrictions on the President. TPA lays out the parameters of negotiation from the beginning.”
Congress is ALREADY required to be involved from the beginning. They are empowered by the Constitution with the SOLE authority to “regulate commerce with foreign nations.”
But with TPA, they are ceding that power to the president, and will be leaving themselves only a yes or a no. Do you honestly think Obama and the foreign negotiators will care about congress’ stated “parameters”?? They will know that whatever they put into a Trade deal will be strong-armed through, no matter what the people scream about. Boehner and McConnell and Obama will GET THIS DEAL THROUGH by hook or by crook, just at they are going to GET TPA THROUGH by hook or by crook. They’re already “fast-tracking” a vote tomorrow, while the congressmen’s arms are still sore from the arm-twisting and their heads are still spinning from the threats and bribery.
Again, what five year secrecy clause? Your link does not answer the question.
It was one of a plethora of trade deals that was passed. Anything that has passed basically since Roosevelt.
If TPA fails trade negotiation defaults back to the President, who will not hesitate to act unilaterally.
Well, that’s the friggin’ law if TPA is passed. No trade deal can go through without the vote of Congress.
A vote pre-rigged in FAVOR of Obama if TPA passes.
With all that is wrong with this country right now; out of control spending, demoralized military,EPA run amok, ditto IRS ,commie core,NLRB ,activist judiciary,on going trade deficits, obamacare, incredibly weak, outright dangerous foreign policy, etc, etc, etc,.
Why are there a handful of people on this forum that are acting like this fast track/ trade treaties are the most absolute important thing to be focused on right now?????
Hey look everybody, the ship is going down, let’s rearrange the deck chairs!!!
This smells, and it smells real bad.
“If TPA fails trade negotiation defaults back to the President, who will not hesitate to act unilaterally.”
Where do you come up with these silly notions? Why would the president be FIGHTING to get something passed that LIMITS his authority. In your above premise, wouldn’t he be fighting to KILL TPA, so that he could just do what he wants.
And if you are correct, since TPA doesn’t exist for him now, why isn’t he acting unilaterally now? Why is he saying that TPA MUST be passed so that he can finish the negotiations on TPP.
Your argument doesn’t hold water.
This is one of the reasons WHY this subject has become so distorted and driven people crazy trying to understand it. This is NOT the text of the bill. When have you ever seen a bill that is all of ONE PAGE LONG? It is ONE AMENDMENT to H. R. 1314
Fueled by a Leftist plant (who admitted it) and perpetuated by people from other campaigns who have the simple agenda of defeating Cruz.
Why are you asking me such ridiculous questions.
I’m not telling anyone what they can or can’t discuss here. I personally don’t want to discuss Obamatrade, because I don’t know much about it, and therefore haven’t formed an opinion on it, until I get further details.
That said, if you’d like to discuss the TPA, which is separate from Obamatrade, we can do that. Otherwise, piss off.
Thanks.....
