We laughed so hard the first time we heard there was a hairspray for men.

I had a now deceased Welsh uncle who knitted, quite beautifully I might add.

Well, hell, I am learning to splice rope, which is darn near like braiding hair, so who knows?

During the Middle Ages there existed a Guild for knitters. Yep, that included men. As for sewing, when at sea and sails needed to be repaired, the old salts stitched them quite well.

These young folks don’t read, or they would be familiar with the past and how people lived and got by. How narrow minded.

The guy likes knitting. It is a skill and beats the hell out of playing with his cell phone all day.

I knew a couple of drillers who could spice wire cable and hawser rope. Now that was a talent.

I belong to a weekly knitting group. We occasionally have a man or two come, usually the husband of female members. They don’t usually last with our group because it is 20 or so women chatting for hours on end.

But they knit at home, according to their wives, and I see men in the LYS (local yarn store - knitting acronym) all the time.

I know a couple of younger guys that knit. The one guy made himself some snowboarder hats - colorful. The ones with the ear flaps and chin string.

So many people commented on when he would wear them, and he figured out he could make some money making them. He made a lot of money through college doing that.

There’s nothing wrong with a man knitting. A man invented knitting. Men should not try to look like women, though.

“...I am learning to splice rope...”

A magnificent art, and growing increasingly rare.

How do you know a man invented knitting?

My fraternal grandfather knitted. I still have a pair of mittens and socks he made. He had two wives and fathered 8 children so I don’t think his manhood was an issue. Nice when a man knows how to do something besides drink beer and watch sports.

Is he a girly man? Or is he carrying on the manly craft of European fisherman sweaters?

The skill of knitting is no different than cooking, gardening, wood carving, or any other creative and productive skill.
