We had a 55 Bel Air when I was a toddler and I can still remember Dad banging second and third gear with that 265V8 with three on the tree. During my high school days in the late 60’s you could pick up a rust free running tri-five Chevy for $400-$600.

I have other classic American car pic collections, including Fords, Mopar, Pontiac and quite a few wild, off-the-wall customs, from the top custom car designers and builders of the day.

Thanks! Those were the great years!
HST, a FRiend had a ‘58 409 hardtop with four on the floor. Awesome machine!
My High School ride was a ‘57 Pontiac Star Chief two door hardtop. Turned out to be one of the fastest cars in my high school - 347 ci, four barrel, four speed Hydramatic, no power, no AC(!). It was quick! My dad had no idea! LOL!
Still drive a Pontiac — ‘65 GTO hardtop. Best Pontiac ever built!

Nearly 60 years later I could go right to this exact spot. It has hardly changed at all.

Here's a few more I'll throw out before I have to get ready to leave for work... Some wild customs and over-the-top street rods.

My maternal grandfather had a '54 Chevy looked a lot like this one.

Sadly, the closest I ever had to a street rod was a model of the Red Baron.

The first car I ever drove. I was 15, unlicensed and naturally was seen driving it. Even so the punishment was worth it every mile of it. Wish I still had a 55 Bel Air. Beautiful car.

Really nice set of cars. I approve. From an admitted Blue Oval guy.
Truth be told, everyone routinely made nice looking cars in 50s. My cousin and I got into a discussion a few nights ago of the best-looking car of the 50s. I, the Ford guy, argued for a '59 Chevrolet El Camino, and he, the Chevy guy, for a '57 Ford Fairlane. We both noted the irony.
