I have owned a few of these cars. Had a 1 year old 55 Chevy 2 door when I met my current wife at the drive inn. I bought a 1968 Chevrolet step side in 68 and still have it. Black with flames and a small block and 3 speed on the column and 70,000 miles. My 58 year old kid has spent a ton on a 1959 El Camino with a 488 big block ~

All We got is Mama's '07 Trailblazer and the Briggs Twin Turbo Riding Mower. VVVVROOOMMM, VVVVROOOMMM, VVVVROOOMMM!

The mower puts fear in all of the Bunny Wabbit herd in the back yard every time Mama mows, except the REALLY BIG ONE with the Pocket Watch- He Times Her Laps and holds up a chalk board with Her Lap Time and when to Pit;)

Wow! My first car was a '61 Bel Air and it had none of the class of it's earlier brothers. The 235 CID six and the 2-speed power-glide would get it from 0-60 (and even to 94 if the road was long and level enough ;).

I remember when Mercedes and BMWs were tasteful, elegant cars. They just LOOKED rich. Today, they are so avant-garde, they no longer look elegant at all.

Computers and wind tunnels took over design. Worse still, car companies were headed by Engineers and they had design people telling the bean counters what is what. Now the bean counters and 25 year old CPAs are calling all the shots.

The other thing is, men used to do all the car buying and men like good looking cars. Women just want safe affordable cars with lots of cubby storage for stuff. Looks are way down the list for women when car shopping. So since women are now equal partners in car buying, looks have fallen in priority.

Then somebody comes along and builds a terrific looking car and it sells like pancakes. But they don’t learn from it.

Looks like you are correct.

Here is a screen capture of the Yahoo search results for "Satellite Sport Wagon" (images). Some of them apparently had the wood grain panel on the sides like the Ford Country Squire.

Back in the early 80’s I had a 1969 Dodge Coronet wagon that I bought for a dollar and used to haul firewood in. It had a 318 V8. Damn thing would go anywhere in the snow. It would fly on the highway too. Great car.

Until a fire truck hit it.
