Many yrs ago there was a made-for-TV documentary on Roy Campanella, catcher for the old Brooklyn Dodgers. The 57 Chevy Convertible he drove skidded on some ice and smashed into a utility pole, leaving his legs paralyzed. Even though they didn't actually wreck the car, just the sound effects were "cringeworthy".

1957 Chevy 150 used by the Toronto, Ont. PD. I know someone in NY who restored a 150, a plain-jane 4-door, 6-cyl 3-on-the-tree originally part of a huge fleet ordered by the US Army. Most of them eventually wound up in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, where there's still plenty of them on the roads there. Even though it's not nearly as flashy as a fuel injected Bel-Air convertible, he did an incredibly meticulous restoration on it right down to the original mil specs unique to these cars.

These are real cars, not the boxy, roach-looking crap on the roads today.
My mother had a 57 Chevy 210, 140 HP with overdrive. I drove it for years and the original muffler lasted over 65,000 miles. Had to be taken off with a power chisel. The mechanic had never seen a muffler that lasted so long and was so hard to take off.
Kept it stocked with girls. Our slogan back then was “Never leave home without them”.

When I was in high school, my Dad bought a new ‘56 bel air four door sedan with the pillars. I couldn’t talk him into a hardtop. Stick shift. I loved that car, but always wished it was a hardtop.

22 is a real bad-*ss 55. But I’d rather not think about James Taylor having anything at all to do with the style of it, even if it were just a movie he happened to be in. He doesn’t come across to me like the kind of guy that would appreciate stuff like this. Rods styled like that have been around a long time. High in the front, etc. Used to be a Ford Fairlane in the neighborhood I grew up in (New York’s Lower East Side) that was jacked up even higher in the front. On leaf springs.
