The National Football League suspended New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for four regular season games without pay "for conduct detrimental to the integrity of the NFL," the league announced Monday afternoon.

The league also announced that the team—which won the Super Bowl earlier this year—would be fined $1 million and forced to forfeit its first-round pick in the 2016 draft and its fourth-round selection in the 2017 draft.

All game-used balls should be inflated to the same pressure and controlled by the officiating crew at all times.

then that creates the very controversy we are facing aren't we?

There is no reason why the NFL shouldn't allow each team to inflate their footballs to whatever pressure they feel comfortable with..........

Explain to me why football pressure shouldn't be left up to their respective teams?

Isn’t that going to be special?

And people do not think this is a sham.

No, they used the NASCAR excuse, an enveloping rule that includes anything they want to. I think it is called Rule 12A, non defined and all encompasing, what ever they want to use.

I suppose I could live with your solution as it would be acceptable to both teams. But I fear that a football may not so much resemble a football over time. Also, QB hand size is a factor when drafting. Teams need to take his ability to grip into consideration when they pick him. Now that factor has less impact. Finally, why shouldn't defensive backs or d-linemen have a say in inflation? How come the offense gets to determine it?

Imagine if Mlb allowed pitchers to doctor their balls before a game. I simply think the easiest solution is to have both teams play with as similar of a ball as possible. Let the qb's scuff them up before game time under league supervision.

As much as I don’t like Brady, it’s jerks like Goodell who actually make Brady look sympathetic. I hope this gets jammed up Goodell’s rectum on appeal. Job 1 for the competition committee: dump this stupid rule.

[[what I don’t understand is that Belichick received no fine or suspension]]

Agreed.

Four games is not harsh enough for powerful team like Pats. I mean, they just won the Super Bowl. Suppose the team is 1 and 3 without Brady. If rest of division is weak, he could lead team to division title in the final twelve games.

Then it would be ha-ha-ha-ha! We showed you!

Suspension and losing a first round draft pick is pure BS.
The report had not one shred of evidence on Brady and he was and tarred and feathered by the running-scared Goodell. The punter for the Giants was just on Greta on Fox News and keeping saying Brady was suspended because he “lied and tried to cover his tracks”? What report did this goofy SOB read?

Because the ball belongs to the offense.........In football, it's up to the defense to get that ball back regardless of what its pressure might be..........LOL!

So a running team could deflate it more to eliminate fumbles? I’m more convinced that there should be a standard psi range.

The ruling did mention that he was uncooperative with the investigation. I'm hearing on sports talk here that there were inconsistencies with his version of events.

How do you deflate a baseball? Didn’t he play for the Flyers?

Just watch. This team is just going to keep on winning. Who cares about 1st round draft picks? Brady himself was a 6th rounder.

The Patriots have a knack for pulling superstars out of the lower rounds, even if they do sometimes come up with a serial killer or a serial ball deflator.

Perhaps, but then it would apply to both teams and thus neither one would have an advantage over the other one, right?

Not according to what I'm getting from your logic. You'd let each team determine their own standard. A team with a crappy QB and good RB could completely deflate to eliminate fumbles in their run game. That would mitigate the advantage a team may have by having a better QB.

HAHA! Is there any proof? You mean, besides common sense? How would the ballboys know to deflate the balls to begin with without the input from the “greatest QB in history”? (Keep in mind, Brady describing the process he and the ballboys go through with pre-game check of the game balls.)

Bottom line... Two lowly ball boys got thrown under the bus by the pretty-boy gazillionaire. Keep an eye on the ballboys bank accounts...

If they were wearing a different color jersey you would see how idiotic that comment is. It makes for an interesting study, the mindset of otherwise sensible people when it comes to defending their local sports teams.

HAHAAA! Is there any proof... too funny.
