If you could take any historical event and have it made into a movie (and it would be made to your liking) which historical event would it be? Hannibal? Maccabees? Etc.
Waterloo
The fall of America.
Hopefully it’s a fictional picture.
The REAL modern Tea Party story. I’m sick of media and political “experts” who really don’t have a clue defining the movement.
The election of 1868 where The Democrat slogan was “This is a White man's country”
The defeat of civil rights laws under the Eisenhower administration by Democrats only for the package to be relabeled under LBJ for political purposes.
The fact that a pistol was fired at Kent State and is in all of the investigation reports but was never reported in the press.
The income tax coming about because of a political dirty trick by the Republicans that backfired.
The potential murder of Warren G Harding.
I could go on.
Many mind-blowing actions in that battle. Some truly awe-inspiring heroism and bravery.
the moment it’s revealed that Hillary accepted bribes for pay and the Justice department arrests her and serves the search warrant on her home?
The life and times of Jack Kirby.
Freegards
Actually, from my current perspective, it would be interesting to see the Battle of 1812 and Laura Secord, the famous chocolate lady up here, how she helped Canada.
It’s interesting. There’s a post & ping list that’s winding down about WWII daily events reported by the NYT 70 years ago. One of the things that’s come through is an extension of what seems to be a legacy of aloof and bumbling English military officers. Your post about Mutiny on the Bounty made me think that whole thing was another series of bungling British official acts (except for Bligh’s incredible journey).
The Doolittle Raid, also known as the Tokyo Raid, planned and led by Lieutenant Colonel James “Jimmy” Doolittle, on 18 April 1942, was an air raid by the United States on the Japanese capital Tokyo and other places on Honshu island during World War II. It was the first air raid to strike the Japanese Home Islands.
It is a story of how 80 men learned how to take off in limited distance so they could fly from the U.S. Navy’s aircraft carrier USS Hornet. There were 16 U.S. Army Air Forces B-25B Mitchell medium bombers. Each had a crew of 5 men. They flew without fighter escort deep in the Western Pacific Ocean. When finished with their attack they were to fly on to China, where they would be picked up.
The success of the bombing raid sent the Japanese army into China to find the crewmen. Eight were captured and from them, 3 were executed. The movie would show the treatment these courageous men endured and how their faith in God sustained them.
This raid created a huge psychological advantage for America and caused Japan to over-react with Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto’s decision to attack Midway Island in the Central Pacifican attack that turned into a decisive strategic defeat of the Imperial Japanese Navy.
Not an event, but I would like to see an honest movie about Stalin, and all the people whose deaths he’s responsible for. I’d also like to see an honest movie about the failures of communism. For that matter, I’d also like to see an honest movie depiction of what’s happened in Venezuela over the past 15 years.
A movie about Soviet / communist propaganda and its effects on the West would also be good.
Have you read “In the Garden of Beasts” by Eric Larsen?
“Battle of Athens, Tn”
This.
Nope. I’ll look it up.
“The life and times of the moderate Muslim”
Can never be made. The cast would be too small.
I think I’d like an honest movie about Mohammed. An honest movie about Che. And maybe a Biblical movie about Samson vs Goliath.
BBC America will be airing a new TV series based on Bernard Cornwall’s historic book series “The Saxon Stories.” The series is titled “The Last Kingdom.” Not sure the exact date of the airing, but they’ve been showing teasers for it.
Then see THE DAY OF THE SIEGE. A very good movie about it, but could have been a little better with better special effects.
I recommend “The Day of the Siege” to everyone who will listen and some that don’t.
A really good and recent movie on the siege of Vienna and how 9-11 became so important to the Mooselimbs.
Free on Netflix streaming.
Actually I was thinking more along the lines of regular Germans leading normal lives and how rapidly they simply abandoned everything to join the worlds largest Jim Jones cult. One day they were about as normal as any other people and the next embracing madness, whether willingly or out of fear.
