LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) -- A tourist in town for the Kentucky Derby was shot and killed near his hotel Saturday night. Police have charged three people in connection to 49-year-old Toronto resident Scott Hunter's murder.
Friends of Scott Hunter describe him as a great guy and a lively character, he was a bartender in downtown Toronto for nine years.
"We're trying to get our heads around it and trying to comprehend how something like this could happen," said Beau Opperman, Hunter's boss at House on Parliament and.
Opperman says Hunter was in Louisville with a friend to go to the Derby.
"He was down there to watch the race and was having a good time and last we heard he had texted or called his girlfriend and was having a great time and then his family contacted me Sunday morning and I can only imagine what they're going through,” he told WDRB by phone Monday.
Police say Hunter was killed when he and his friend were headed back to their hotel after Kentucky Derby.

Canadians adore stories about the racist, uneducated, self-centered drug-addled trigger-happy loonies to the South. Nothing pleases them more than a good “Loving Family-Oriented Canadian Med School Student killed by Illiterate American” story. Critical to leave out the par about the drug buy gone awry, etc. (cue infuriated Canadian replies.)
How sad. The brother and sister seem to be arabs. This seems unusual for run-of-the-mill street thugs.
No Canadian I know of thinks this way. It’s a sad story. Perhaps it wasn’t a drug deal, but a robbery, as is reported.
FWIW, we have our fair share of street thugs - there are many areas in the cities where you don’t dare venture.
I’d hit the switch, pull the lever, push the button or pull the trigger on all of them, myself - eagerly. It depends on how they do it in Kentucky when you get the death penalty.

Well the Derby is decadent and depraved. The fancy clothes make it seem pretty, but really it’s a lot of people getting really drunk.
I wouldn’t say they “adore” stories like this at all. I might think that some there might be thankful their problem isn’t as bad as here, but it isn’t the same. [BTW, I’m not Canadian]
There’s this mentality these days that those who have, are the enemy. And they don’t have to exhibit they actually have that much.
“I want what you have, so your life isn’t worth dirt to me.” That’s what this is all about.
I’m sure the Black could very well have been thinking, these Whities deserve to pay for slavery, but as it turns out the victim as a Canadian.

All three are facing nearly a dozen robbery charges and Fatima Abu-Diab is also facing a possession of a controlled substance charge.
Obviously he's not been watching the news. America is not a safe place. Period.
Hope he at least enjoyed the race.
