So! You have successfully purchased an Apple Watch, or you’re interested in how the setup process works. Either way, you are to be congratulated for your initiative and willingness to take a risk on a brand new platform, one that lives on your wrist and makes your wrist part of how you live. Also, it has a really great Mickey Mouse watch face.

We’re here to help. This article explains the major steps you will need to go through to set up and understand your new Apple Watch. It is virtually identical for all versions of the watch, from the least-expensive Sport on up to the Edition. Be warned that this workflow isn’t 100 percent comprehensive — these are the main things you’ll need to know to have a deep and fulfilling relationship with the new technology resting just above your hand.

On your iPad, go to the “Preferences” app, go down the list on the left side and choose “Safari”. Then you’ll see at the top middle to right side, “Search Engine”. Choose that and you’ll get some choices. Choose something other than Google.

Once you choose something other than Google, it won’t be used any longer. I’ve heard that some people like “DuckDuckGo”.

I’m giving you instructions related to iOS 8.3. If you have the first model of iPad you will not be able to load iOS 8.3.

Very slick video production values — but WHERE’S THE DAMN CAT VIDEO??

Step 10. It's there. Fun. Cat in a bathtub with a large fish. Can doesn't know what to do with it. . . Fish hides under the cat!

The cat video was just a come-on to get you to read about the Apple watch. ;D

Nah, it's there and well worth watching. Step 10.

Alright, Nuc, but what you are complaining about is NOT your iPad. And it is Google, not Apple that is doing that. Google Ads.

You are attributing Cookies set by Google Ads on the websites you visit to your Apple iPad and blaming Apple for the way that the way that Google has made the Web Advertising work to benefit GOOGLE!

So, I apologize. Your post still was rife with red flags. . . and you were blaming your Apple iPad for something that happens on ANY device that is on the Internet. Don't blame the device and say that it is at fault for something you don't understand and doing it deliberately. If is not tracking you. AND you are wrong about not having GOOGLE on your devices. Google is ubiquitous if you are on the Internet. Google is the invader and the one who is "squealing" about what websites you visit. . . but NOT about your searches. It is picking up the ads on those sites.

Nuc, the only way to avoid this is to block cookies, browse with an "adblocker" plug-in, browse through a proxy server, or clear cookies and history after every website. Google's business model is to learn everything it can about you and sell that information to third parties, or sell you something for their advertisers. They even mine your emails that go through them.

Again, I apologize for mistaking you for a troll.

If you’re looking to block ad sites and other kinds of sites that are irritating ... I use the following ...

Weblock - AdBlock for iOS by FutureMind
https://appsto.re/us/ovUtH.i

I don’t know what iOS you have, but this app takes iOS 6.0 and above. Also, it works with WiFi but not with cellular.

Accepted, forgiven, and thanks for the tip. Does Google work in background even when not selected? Wouldn’t doubt it. The ad issue started following one of the iOS updates. Not certain which one but I think it was in one in the seven series of updates as I recall. Currently running iOS 8.3(12F69). Gotta go FReeper, smoke detector chirping and momma is irritated.

Thanks ST. The pad is currently using iOS 8.3(12F69). So it. Should be compatible.

My question exactly. I clicked for the CAT, dammit.

(I’ve been asking people for days: “just what does this watch do, that I need?” - and nobody had an answer.)

But, I’m a bit of a Luddite. I’ve never even gotten a ‘smart’ phone, yet. It seems like too much noise and confusion for my life.

(I was actually at lunch yesterday, in a very nice restaurant, with a bunch of people who had looked forward to this celebration; and one was busy taking pictures of her meal on her cell phone...?????)

Here’s my idea of a watch:

(Not connected with the company in the link at all; just like diamond ladies’ watches :-)

-JT (still would like a link to the CAT that was supposed to be here....)

Apple ad ALERT

Did you not see what Jim Robinson said when he ZOTTED another one of you Apple Hate Brigade members just a few days ago???? Here let me show you exactly what JR said:

"And for the record, we have no advertisers and we take no “corporate money.” Swordmaker posts articles that he and his ping list members enjoy reading. I sincerely doubt he’s paid to do so and I can guarantee you that I am not. You may ignore the threads you don’t like if you wish. — Jim Robinson

Jim Robinson is the owner of this forum and he is well aware of the nature of these threads. . . and he is okay with these threads, it is NOT YOUR PLACE to be the thought police of FreeRepublic. If he wants them gone, they would be GONE. No give it a rest. Ignore Apple threads and go on to something you like.

If you continue this line of Anti-Apple attacks where they're not wanted or productive, especially where the owner of the site approves, you're an idiot.

Google often works on the website level, but with the assistance of cookies set on your computer or mobile device. Apple set up means for users to block the intrusion and then Google worked around it. They keep finding means to work around blocks. To me, that makes them no different than email spammers.

It wasn't the iOS update. . . it was Google "fixing" the block Apple had put in place. Apple is still trying to find a way to re-block it.

I guess you were never involved in a User Group, in the past. I was, for many years, and users met periodically, had classes, recommended software, discussed hardware and software issues, had company demos from software and hardware companies, and shared all kinds of tips with each other.

We never called all those gatherings “advertisements”. It was a group that got together for sharing what they all had in common.

When the Internet came (more specifically, web browsers) then things began to shift away from User Groups and face-to-face meetings, to meeting online and doing much of the same things, within the limitations of being “online”.

That’s exactly what is gong on here, along with all the other “groups” on Free Republic who discuss together their own particular issues. You got all sorts of other ping lists here on Free Republic.

SO ... why is it that you have a problem with this online version of User Groups, with Apple Users?

In the “real life” User Groups that we had years ago, if someone didn’t want to hear about this stuff, if they hated the product, if they liked something else better, they didn’t come to the User Group meeting ... that’s all. I never once, in all the years of User Group meetings ever saw someone else come in and “protest” at the meeting, and say, “You’re advertising Apple products!” ... LOL ... Of course not, that would be silly ... everyone was there because they all already had Apple products, or they wanted to find out more about a particular Apple product before they bought it.

So, just understand what it’s about ... it’s for Apple Users and if you are not interested, don’t bother coming to the meeting ... :-) ...

(I’ve been asking people for days: “just what does this watch do, that I need?” - and nobody had an answer.)

Here are some of the functions of the Apple Watch:

Which Jamestown do you take your name from? The colonial in Virginia? Or the Gold Rush town in California?
