The first film was, of course, the 1980 classic Raging Bull, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro. The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards. De Niro won for Best Actor. The film also won for Best Editing.

Ping.

Speaking of Raging Bull, it lost out in the Best Film and Best Director categories to Ordinary People. I've always considered that robbery.

That was complete robbery, although Ordinary People was a pretty decent movie.

I think Raging Bull was the best movie ever made.

That he at 93 years of age is still mentally with it, is a remarkable phenomenon. He used to take two punches to give one it is said. One never knows what gift heredity, or whatever it is, defies almost every instance.

I was a boxing fanatic in my younger years. Saw many big fights in England 1945-1954. I read of a huge underground facility in England during the cold war. Later it was turned into a research storage area of deceased persons brains. Contained in jars.

Boxers were identified. To my concern, all had brain damage. Most suffered from Parkinson's disease. Fine looking athletic men at the time of their heyday. I have not watched or paid to see any boxing since.

My hobby is FR and American Western History. (oh oh! too much of a ramble by me)

Muhammad Ali suffers from a lot damage from boxing. But the worst was a story I read some years ago about American heavyweight Jerry Quarry who fought Ali one time. Quarry had so many problems it was unreal.

But it's interesting to look at bios of old famous actors/entertainers and read how many were pro boxers for a period time in their younger years. Bob Hope for example.

There’s an interesting story about Stephanie Lamotta, Jake’s daughter. She was attacked by a knife-wielding mugger in London whom she knocked out with a right to the jaw. He was still unconscious when the police showed up.
