Offended by satire, incorrect costuming, and inappropriate feather placement, a group of about a dozen American Indian actors walked off the set of an Adam Sandler comedy Wednesday, according to a report in Indian Country. Apparently, the actors were shocked to learn that Indians would not be inoculated from satire in the “Ridiculous Six” Western spoof, and that a comedy film wasn’t terribly interested in historical accuracy.
Things came to a head when one of the producers told one of the actors, “If you guys are so sensitive, you should leave.” [emphasis added]
Approximately a dozen Native actors and actresses, as well as the Native cultural advisor, left the set of Adam Sandler’s newest film production, The Ridiculous Six, on Wednesday. The actors, who were primarily from the Navajo nation, left the set after the satirical western’s script repeatedly insulted native women and elders and grossly misrepresented Apache culture.
The examples of disrespect included Native women’s names such as Beaver’s Breath and No Bra, an actress portraying an Apache woman squatting and urinating while smoking a peace pipe, and feathers inappropriately positioned on a teepee.
“When I began doing this film, I had an uneasy feeling inside of me and I felt so conflicted,” she said. “I talked to a former instructor at Dartmouth and he told me to take this as finally experiencing stereotyping first hand. We talked to the producers about our concerns. They just told us, ‘If you guys are so sensitive, you should leave.‘ I was just standing there and got emotional and teary-eyed. I didn’t want to cry but the feeling just came over me.”
The key phrase is “the examples of disrespect.”

Sandler is actually one of the few Republicans in Hollywood.
My guess is the movie crew won’t have any problem replacing the 12 angry men (and women).
For every actor hired, there are three or more eager to understudy or take the role.

I received a “set” of the Dean Martin Roasts for Christmas. Most of them could not be shown today either. Ditto for Sanford & Son.
In Cheyenne Autumn, Navajos played Cheyenne and in the scene, where they are having a pow wow with Richard Widmark. The Navajos are joking about the whites penis size, no one other than the Navajos knew what they were saying. Every year the drive inn in Farmington NM, shows Cheyenne Autumn to a packed house of Indians, hooting, hollering and blowing horns. They think it is a great joke on the whites.
Old Indian saying: lie down with dogs, wake up with fleas.
Heck. I saw the classic Andrew Dice Clay 2 hour show on video a month ago. Absolutely no way his act could play today. The way he ridiculed homos will get him kicked out of clubs.

There is humor, and then there is humor. Personally, I don’t think Adam Sandler is funny, nor do I like any of his movies.
If you ever get the chance check out the monuments at the Little Bighorn Battleground that list the names of the Indians that fought Custer.
Beaver’s Breath and No Bra would fit right in.
My personal favorite name engraved on the wall is “Plenty Lice”.

As for experiencing stereotyping first hand, I'd say at least it's just a movie. Thanks to revisionist history and current day reporting, that's a daily-nonstop happening for whitey in this day and age.
Hey, she got some badly needed more money out of it. And she is much prettier then Harvey Korman.
