Why men refuse to marry: Women complain chaps today won't settle down.
The Daily Mail ^ | April 20, 2015 | Peter Lloyd

A controversial new book argues that the triumph of feminism has meant men are now second-class citizens.

George Clooney, Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne may have all taken the plunge recently — but they are a diminishing band of brothers, for the number of men marrying in the West has plunged in recent decades.

The state of matrimony is not just ailing. It is dying out faster than a mobile phone battery.

According to the Office for National Statistics, marriage in Britain is at its lowest level since 1895. In 2011, there were just 286,634 ceremonies — a 41 per cent free fall from 1972, when 480,285 couples tied the knot.

For an army of women, Mr Right is simply not there, no matter how hard they look for him. And the reason? When it comes to marriage, men are on strike.

Why? Because the rewards are far less than they used to be, while the cost and dangers it presents are far greater.

‘Ultimately, men know there’s a good chance they’ll lose their friends, their respect, their space, their sex life, their money and — if it all goes wrong — their family,’ says Dr Helen Smith, a lecturer at the University of Tennessee and author of Why Men Are Boycotting Marriage, Fatherhood And The American Dream.

I can’t imagine the manners of someone coming into a house and turning on someone else’s television.

My friends tell me I should write a book. Had some good times dating, but quite a few relationships were real doozies.

Life itself has elements of risk.

I would hope there are still some men who value Western civilization more than themselves.

We’ve been married 40 years, and will do anything and everything we can to instill its importance to our granddaughter.

Tell him to go to a very conservative church and check out the girls there. plain Mennonite, Conservative Baptist and the like. Those people bring up their daughters to love God, love their husbands and love their children.

My daughter, 22 and a missionary has a difficult time finding men who love God and could love her.

Like they say, why pay for the cow when you can get the milk for free?

There's an obvious but unstated corollary:

If I'm paying full price for the cow, she had D@MN well better not have EVER given milk away for free.

I'm 40, good looking, take care of myself (working out 3-5 times a week, I bench 300), and self sufficient. My family did not have much money growing up so everything I have, I busted my ass go get.

Yes, that is an example of manhood.

Sure, do what you want. But like I said before, there’s just something about a common culture........

11 years?? Oh just kill me now.

Actually, it's pretty nice. It's peaceful and just... clean feeling, somehow. Most of my insecurities subside when I'm not worried about how some man will view me. I intend to stay this way from here on out.

She sounds terribly controlling... has she (or have you both) tried counseling? (I suppose she flatly refuses.)

America

Some could argue that America is currently experiencing a cultural collapse. It always had a fragile culture because of its immigrant foundings, but immigrants of the past rapidly acclimated into the host culture to create a sense of national pride around an ethic of hard work and shared democratic values. This is being eroded as a fem-centric culture rises in its place, with its focus on trends, celebrities, homosexuality, multiculturalism, and male-bashing. Natives have become pleasure seekers with little inclination to reproduction during their years of peak fertility.

Likelihood of 50-year cultural collapse: Very high

I can certainly see what you’re saying. It makes perfect sense to me and sounds very calming. But the actual quote “without” part would really bug me, I’m trying to be discreet about it. LOL

A conservative church, huh?

Been to a conservative church lately? The women are, by and large, ‘born again virgins’ who, prior to having their virginity restored by The Lord, went about bedding fifty to one hundred men during their “party years” (formerly known as child bearing years, but who says that any longer). The men are constantly shamed and told to “man up!” and marry these women because, you know, Jesus.

Meanwhile, men are constantly derided and instructed at how fallen they are. Compare mother’s day and father’s day sermons.

Mother’s day: “Mothers are a special gift from God that proves his love of all people. Mothers are the life bringers and prodivers of care and unconditional love. God bless Mothers”

Father’s day: “Men, you’re failing as fathers. You’re sinners. Man up and stop failing your children and wife. Too many abusive fathers! Too much failure! Man up like Our Lord and Savior commands!”

Yeah. Conservative church. Great. Unless you’re instructing to hit an actual Amish community, or some Mormon sects out in Utah, that advice basically tells men exactly the opposite of how to find a quality wife. Marry a used up, dried up “born again virgin” who has had more men in her than she her IQ count, sure, great, fantastic.

As to the article, I don’t blame men for not marrying any longer. It’s a huge legal trap and there is nothing, nothing, that it serves in the best interest of men any longer. Nothing. The moment Princess Pampered reads “Eat, Pray, Love” and decides to frivorce rape you, she gets cash and prizes, you lose most everything including the visitation of your children (if she wishes to make that so) AND you get to become an indentured servant. Yay!

Some men are clueless. It’s so funny.

I sat at the next table of a couple who were on their first date. The grandmothers from Grosse Pointe (or maybe Palm Beach) had arranged the fix-up.

For most of the night the guy carried on about how important he was and all the wonderful things he did and had done. He asked her nothing about herself. Finally toward the end of the evening he asked the gal if she skied. She said she did. He told her how she didn’t know how good skiing could be if she had never skied out west. Then he asked her if she had ever skied in Colorado or Utah. She said she hadn’t but had heard it was nice. He carried on about how much she had missed and finally asked her where she skied. LOL She said Switzerland. His jaw dropped but he then asked when she was there. Her response: when I was in boarding school in Switzerland I skied every day. She had gone to Le Rosey. LOL He was pretty quiet after that.

I’ve asked... she said sure, but over the past two years has made excuses.

I’ve taken marriages courses at church, and asked her to come - she said sure — but made excuses (too tired to go on Wednesday nights after work, but I’m not, since I take the kids to church).

You know, you’d be perfectly justified in talking to a lawyer. This is abandonment.
