Just ads and pictures mostly from the 50's and 60's.
I have a vague memory of Beetle Bailey cartoons on Saturday mornings.
What a ticket!
Funny stuff.
You must have seen the clip of George Gobel on the Tonight Show with Dean Martin and Bob Hope.
Aldo Ray - Navy frogman 1944-1946. Saw action at Okinawa with UDT-17.
James Doohan -
At the beginning of the Second World War, Doohan joined the Royal Canadian Artillery.[6] He was commissioned a lieutenant in the 13th Field Artillery Regiment of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division. He was sent to England in 1940 for training. His first combat was the invasion of Normandy at Juno Beach on D-Day. Shooting two snipers, Doohan led his men to higher ground through a field of anti-tank mines, where they took defensive positions for the night. Crossing between command posts at 11:30 that night, Doohan was hit by six rounds fired from a Bren gun by a nervous Canadian sentry:[7] four in his leg, one in the chest, and one through his right middle finger. The bullet to his chest was stopped by a silver cigarette case given to him by his brother.[citation needed]His right middle finger had to be amputated, something he would conceal during his career as an actor.[8]
Doohan graduated from Air Observation Pilot Course 40 with 11 other Canadian artillery officers[9] and flew Taylorcraft Auster Mark V aircraft for 666 (AOP) Squadron, RCAF as a Royal Canadian Artillery officer in support of 1st Army Group Royal Canadian Artillery. All three Canadian (AOP) RCAF Squadrons were manned by Artillery Officer-pilots and accompanied by non-commissioned RCA and RCAF personnel serving as observers.[10][11]
Although he was never actually a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force, Doohan was once labelled the “craziest pilot in the Canadian Air Force”. In the late spring of 1945, on Salisbury Plain north of RAF Andover, he slalomed a plane between mountainside[dubious discuss] telegraph poles “to prove it could be done”earning himself a serious reprimand. (Various accounts cite the plane as a Hurricane or a jet trainer; however, it was a Mark IV Auster)

Eddie Albert - Prior to World War II, and before his film career, Albert had toured Mexico as a clown and high-wire artist with the Escalante Brothers Circus, but secretly worked for U.S. Army intelligence, photographing German U-boats in Mexican harbors.[5] On September 9, 1942, Albert enlisted in the United States Navy and was discharged in 1943 to accept an appointment as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat “V” for his actions during the invasion of Tarawa in November 1943, when, as the pilot of a U.S. Coast Guard landing craft, he rescued 47 Marines who were stranded offshore (and supervised the rescue of 30 others), while under heavy enemy machine-gun fire.

Yep, always amazed at the line up of real talent during a routine Tonight Show. Bob Hope, Dean Martin, George Gobel and Johnny Carson.
Here’s a site FULL of pictures of America in days gone by:

Notice how honorably people dressed. They presented themselves with regard to the dignity of others not just their own comfort or to shock.
YES!! Most EVERYBODY had a personal sense of dignity back then. I’ve noticed that too!
I noticed that too. And that no one is fat.
What did your paycheck look like?
Colorado small town 1950s
Korea
Disneyland 1950s
Colleges 1960s
Not an actor, but no less an American hero: Ted Williams. Interrupted his playing career TWICE for WWII and Korea as a Marine fighter pilot.
Sad thing is, at the community college where I teach, there is a wacko leftist English teacher and local teacher's union president, she teachers a short class on film and wars. She uses John Wayne as a punch-line, referring to him as this big American patriot that made war movies but, in her words, “dodged the draft” to avoid service.
Well, when she was presenting an open "Honors Class" lecture where anyone could attend, I went to hear her rant.
When she referred to John Wayne as a draft dodger (and receiving a few chuckles from the stupid students), I jumped in and schooled her, I listed the times he tried to enlist and was denied. I slammed her hard in front of 125 people in the classroom. When I finished she was stunned into silence. She had never had anyone challenge her before. She was Queen B%tch in her classes and you must gulp down everything she says. After many awkward moments of the room being totally silent, she collected herself and said “Well, he didn't serve did he? That means he dodged the draft.” The room snickered at her lame attempt to recover.
Did have one of her sycophant students approach me after the lecture and tell me I had no right to embarrass her in front of everyone, that I should have waited until after the lecture and talked to her privately. I responded by telling this butt-kisser leftist that if I left her libelous charge stand unchallenged, then all those students would now think John Wayne, an American Patriot, was nothing more than a draft dodger. He said that was okay because it was more important that I not embarrass her. Typical liberal.
I just love that picture with all the ladies dressed in skirts and nice dresses. I find that so much more attractive than the slutty outfits many girls wear now.
I know right. *sigh*
