Sad thing is, at the community college where I teach, there is a wacko leftist English teacher and local teacher's union president, she teachers a short class on film and wars. She uses John Wayne as a punch-line, referring to him as this big American patriot that made war movies but, in her words, “dodged the draft” to avoid service.
Well, when she was presenting an open "Honors Class" lecture where anyone could attend, I went to hear her rant.
When she referred to John Wayne as a draft dodger (and receiving a few chuckles from the stupid students), I jumped in and schooled her, I listed the times he tried to enlist and was denied. I slammed her hard in front of 125 people in the classroom. When I finished she was stunned into silence. She had never had anyone challenge her before. She was Queen B%tch in her classes and you must gulp down everything she says. After many awkward moments of the room being totally silent, she collected herself and said “Well, he didn't serve did he? That means he dodged the draft.” The room snickered at her lame attempt to recover.
Did have one of her sycophant students approach me after the lecture and tell me I had no right to embarrass her in front of everyone, that I should have waited until after the lecture and talked to her privately. I responded by telling this butt-kisser leftist that if I left her libelous charge stand unchallenged, then all those students would now think John Wayne, an American Patriot, was nothing more than a draft dodger. He said that was okay because it was more important that I not embarrass her. Typical liberal.
