Council member Pio Renteria asked council to regulate the amount of smoke that comes from food trucks and restaurants within 100 feet of residential areas.

Renteria said residents complained to him that smoke coming from BBQ joints caused them to not be able to open their windows or enjoy their backyards. …

Messing with BBQ smoke is like putting beans in a bowl of Texas chili. Or putting ketchup on a hot dog. It just isn’t done!

Ah, Austin.

A little bit of Berkeley, right in the heart of Texas!

They should put electronic monitors on the residents, to make sure they can’t leave and infect the balance of the state...

...until they either cooked some of their own BBQ or bought some... I don't have a problem with BBQ smoke, except when I'm already hungry! ;-)

It won’t be long before this guy complains about the smoke coming from his neighbor’s bbq grill. Then from the fireplace. The next step is regulating the amount of smoke coming from private citizens’ homes.

I lived in Austin in the early 90s and was more than ready to leave when I did.

And by the way, one semester at UT and I was almost turned into a leftie. Those guys are good. And one of the leftie professors was a retired Army Colonel.

Or using salsa that comes from New York City.

well perhaps his neighbors should start complaining about his exhaust from his vehicle, and the heat from his air condiotioner unit filtrating into their homes, and the smell from his oven range fan blowing food smells into their homes etc etc etc

Amen to that. Up here in Dallas on a balmy summer Saturday afternoon the entire
city smells like a BBQ smokehouse, and it will make anybody hungry.

It just ligers in the air, that sweet mesquite and hardwood aroma.

That's one of many things Clint Eastwood is absolutely right about.

Reminds me of the ending of Goodfellas, when Henry Hill is in witness protection complaining that “I call out for marinara over linguine, and I get *bleeping* ketchup over noodles”.

Texans wanted their smoking bans and they got them. Now they can live with the completely expecdted continuation of the erosion of private property rights.

Many of us predicted this a decade ago, while a few FReepers celebrated. I hope those FReepers enjoy the rewards they can now reap.
