At the time of his death, he was not loved by most of the country. The South, of course, were not fans of his. And in the North, he had few followers.

Being shot in a theatre on Good Friday, in those days, was akin to being caught in a Strip Club on a Sunday.

But, he is now recognized as the country’s greatest president, having stayed the course in keeping the Union together.

His death handed power to those seeking revenge on the south.

As a tangent, the frequent news regarding the sesquicentennial of Lincoln’s death and the end of the Civil War reminded me that the arrest, trial and execution of Mary Surratt, George Adzerodt, and the other conspirators took 7 weeks. It was by every account and fair and open trial.

Contrast that with the so-called “justice” being displayed in the Boston Marathon bombing to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. He is, without a doubt, and by his own admission, guilty - yet we are now beyond 2 years, and the process will still grind on for many months more. How is that justice?

“Being shot in a theatre on Good Friday...”

LMBO! It would have been SO much better had he been shot on a Thursday. But getting shot on Good Friday?! WTH was he thinking?

You mean it wasn’t on November 23, 1863, in an open convertible outside an early version of the Texas Schoolbook Depository? Those Lincoln-Kennedy conspirators were asleep on the job!

Besides that, Mrs Lincoln, how was the play?

Wait, was the war about slavery or keeping the union together with violence and bloodshed? Confusing, Lincoln cultists never get their stories straight.

It was George Bush’s fault.

Lincoln himself said his first priority was holding the Union together.

Revisionist history rolls on.

Several years ago we took our two public school age children to Washington so they can see it before it became the Kremlin on the Potomac. All they wanted to do was stay in the hotel and swim.

We saw several exhibits and being good parents wanting to teach our kids about our history, asked many questions of them. My wife asked my son, “do you know where Lincoln was shot?” Without batting an eye he said, “in the head.”

They spent the rest of the day in the pool, swimming.

Both. It was about keeping the Union together and eradicating the scourge of chattel slavery. Not so confusing, but then again, Neoconfederate fetishists aren't so bright.

Funny I must have missed the history lesson where Lincoln ran his 1860 campaign as an abolitionist. I must of had a appointment or something.

FWIW, Google chose to commemorate the 155th anniversary of the Pony Express instead.

Bing did cherry blossoms, and they're usually pretty good about observing history. Still, Lincoln did die on the 15th so we'll see what they do tomorrow.
