Rand Paul walks out on live interview in third testy media exchange this week
The Guardian ^ | 4-10-2015 | Paul Lewis

Republican senator Rand Paul walked out of a live interview with the Guardian on Friday, in the third testy exchange he has had with a journalist since launching his campaign for president three days ago.

Paul, who said during his campaign launch on Tuesday he would like to see “any law that disproportionately incarcerates people of color is repealed”, responded awkwardly when asked which specific piece of legislation he would repeal.

In a live broadcast via the smartphone app Periscope, Paul said he had “a host of bills” that would amend or repeal part of the statute.

Midway through his answer, he added: “Let me answer the question, you complain I don’t answer the question … I am giving you the specifics.”

Paul spoke about the various pieces of bipartisan legislation he has brought to reform the criminal justice system, but did not point to a specific criminal law that he would repeal.

In his final question, he was asked about research showing that white Republicans do not agree with his view that the criminal law is applied in an unequal fashion.

“I think your premise is incorrect,” he said. “Actually I think I can take that message into a white evangelical church anywhere in Iowa and give exactly the same speech and be received well.”

When the reporter attempted a follow-up remark quoting a Washington Post-ABC poll about Republican views on criminal justice, Paul walked off camera.

How about we examine those laws that ‘incarcerate more blacks” than whites...

LETS do a comparison to the number of crimes committed BY RACE and the number of those incarcerated BY RACE.

I would LOVE to see that discussion.

I had a family memember who owned a store. used to be a FLAMING libtard. although 90% of the customers of that mall were white 90% of the sholifting was done by blacks. She told me once in exasperation that she felt like she needed to follwo them around the store every single time one came in, and she felt like that was racist, except for the fact that they stole so often from her.

And she had to stop taking checks too- nearly every time she took a check from a black person it bounced. And should could NOT put up a sign saying “no checks from blacks” so she had to stop taking them from everyone, at a significant cost to her business (some people like to use checks)

Don’t even bother to call me racist, if you disagree, FACTS have no bigotry, they are just facts.

Gingrich is the best at pushing back at the liberal media. I was hoping Paul would also be able to but it seems not.

The perfect answer to identify a law that disproportionately incarcerates blacks.....

Welfare.

He’d have turned the tables on the interview in a heartbeat.

New headline: Does Rand Paul Want to Repeal Welfare?

He could walk that back, or not, at his leisure, but he’d be setting the meme and he’d set it somewhere between the libertarian and conservative
camps..

Plus. From that point on, that particular message resonates differently depending on the audience.

And that’s how you handle the press.

They are morons and if you can’t outwit them we don’t want you as president.

Rand Paul advocates for every law to be repealed?

Yes I agree. Republican candidates cowering in front of the MSM has not worked out too well so there is nothing to lose by giving it back to them.

Look at the freepers on this thread who are backing the MSM and basically bashing the guy for not cowering like normal. Hysterical. :-)

The more combative Paul gets the more in demand he will be for all these media types. There is no such thing as bad publicity. Its hard to fade away when you are on TV and in the news 24/7.

I just watched the video and didn't get the impression that he walked off because of testy questioning but because the interview was over (he had already asked and received for one last question).

That said, I think he's as nutty as his father and that's saying quite a bit.

Based on what Rand said, “any law that disproportionately incarcerates people of color is repealed”, the media question was perfectly fair. What specific laws would you repeal? What about those already incarcerated? Would you have different sentencing guidelines for the races to balance out incarceration statistics?

Rand stepped in it here.

Did he really walk off?

Yes...to another scheduled interview. Apparently someone at the Guardian is shading the truth about the affair. Not really surprised.

If he thinks this is bad, wait until the neocons start smearing him.

He will be stopped at all costs. By any means necessary. Up to and including an unfortunate accident.

Amen, the RonRandPaul Neonuts are delusional thinking Rand Paul is some how Conservative and trowing red meat to the conservatives.

Testy media ? Not to defend the media, but Rand Paul has brought this upon him self.

Not answering legitimate questions, the walking off is not constrewed as the media being hostile towards Rand Paul, he is not right, and not ready for prime time.

His Neonut supporters might support his actions and cheer him on, but normal America is sitting up and taking notice and say “ no, not him, I think we will pass on him “
