Vanity: Razor$$$$Blade$$$ & Razors
4/3/15 | cgasmia

Tired of paying through the nose for "Gimmick" razors with 2&3 blades that do nothing but clog. Looking into a Ole'fashioned Double edge and have seen a few on E Bay and the bald guy from Pawn Stars latest addition at Walgreens for 20 bucks. Never did electric. Wish I kept my 1st Gillette.

Any thoughts?

I bought a couple of double edge razors thirty or forty years ago, one for home, and one for the lake, for just a few bucks apiece. the adjustable one finally failed (corrosion) and the only place I could find another was on Amazon. It was chrome plated solid brass, so it cost about 25 bucks. It seems to be much better quality than the old one, so I hope it will last quite a bit longer.

I use the stainless steel double edge blades, which last quite a bit longer than a week. I still haven't run out of the ones that came with the new razor.

I put my Gillette Fusion blades on a small barber’s strop and they love me long time.

With the old style razor blade...it’s possible to hone it sharp by running it around a inside straight sided glass with some water....the blade lasts for months...old Aussie outback trick.

If you're still hunting it probably doesn't exist.

Also if you are shaving your lady friend, comfort and closeness is a big deal.

Knowing this, I offered to try out my new Gillette Mach 8.5 on one of my lady friends, in preparation for upcoming bikini season.

Now my wife hasn't spoken to me in days.

There is nothing like the feel of hot lather from a mug being applied with a shaving brush. They used to be made from beaver, but now some other kind of fur is used.

And I found out by accident that the Shick razor design allows you to see where you are shaving better than the double sided Gillette. I was visiting the home of a girlfriend’s parents and had forgotten my razor. It was a revelation.

The new priced competition for the Big Two razor manufacturers will probably result in a lowering of their price to stay competitive. All that BS about multiple blades is ridiculous.

Just my take on shaving.

A durable, single blade disposable...
Metal

Best disposable I've ever used.

Good one...

Reminds me of “Ward should you have been so hard on the beaver”
Thanks

I second the Shave Secret endorsement! I’ve been using it for a couple of months and dont see ever going back to gels/foams. Smoother and easier with no razor bumps! I usually shave in the shower but like I can now do it over the sink because there isn’t a mess. Whiskers kind of clump together in the blades- tap them out like little pellets- and they go down the drain without having to chase all the individual ones around the sink. I’ve been putting a drop on my razor after I clean it— can’t prove it but I think it’s help extend blade life.

I remember the Gillette Blue Blades. One use and you dropped them in the slot in the medicine cabinet.

I also remember the necessary styptic pencil to stop the bleeding, and an alcohol based after shave to kill the razor burn.

I like double blade disposable razors.

Trying to sell to the new generation an old product as better. it’s not.

Kind of like selling XZ-MILDEW REMOVER for a very high price when it is nothing but relabeled cheap bleach.

I started it to wash of the blood more easily. Turned out the skin prep of hot water resulted in no bleeding.

I was pleased with my order. My wife loved the womens shaver for a double bonus score for Dad. My first six blade catridge lasted a month. It could have gone two more weeks but at the price why not get the baby bottom smooth shave of a new blade? The rare intersection of good quality and good price.

I found a cheap coffee cup at Dollar Store that I used thirty five years ago. Fits a piece of shaving soap perfectly.

Now I shave in the shower and don’t even use it. I don’t need a mirror.
