I’m another one who uses Harry’s, and I’m not going to mess with anything else. I do use Edge or Gillette shave gel, because Harry’s version is expensive, but their razors and blades are great.

[I think it was Howard Clark who used a cheap drug store razor for months before needing a second. The trick was to dry out the razor completely. Something about the water drying on the blade that ruins the edge. I’ve done it for a month on one cheap double-edged razor] You are correct, you can get six weeks out of a razor if you dry it properly, my trick is to blow it dry with a compressed air canister, gets all the moisture off with just a quick blast.

The new priced competition for the Big Two razor manufacturers will probably result in a lowering of their price to stay competitive.

Actually, they're going a different route.

Proctor & Gamble which owns Gillette also owns The Art of Shaving. Schick is owned by Energizer who also owns Wilkinson Sword and it wouldn't be a surprise if they opened a retail store to compete with Art of Shaving.

So, Gillette and Schick have no intention of lowering their prices, they're just playing both sides of the market.

If you're still hunting it probably doesn't exist.

That's the thing I can't understand; plenty of skuttles out there without drain holes in the lather bowl, but every damn one of them looks like a kid's pottery project. Conversely, all the nice China/pewter/porcelain skuttles are made with drain holes in the top section. Sure wish I could find something to keep the lather hot after the first pass.

I found this place that has some plain white or black ones that look okay (they actually look like a cream server). A bit overprice in my opinion, but that happens with specialized items:

I also remember the necessary styptic pencil to stop the bleeding, and an alcohol based after shave to kill the razor burn.

I haven't used a styptic pencil since the first week I switched over. Alcohol based aftershaves are also old school. There are tons of soothing aftershaves that don't burn at all. The better blades don't burn at all,

**So, Gillette and Schick have no intention of lowering their prices, they’re just playing both sides of the market.**

Which is why I bought a razor made in England and the blade I will use was made overseas. Probably by one of those companies, but they can’t sell $20 cartridges in most parts of the world.
