LEWISBURG Three Bucknell University students were expelled Monday afternoon after making racist and violent remarks on Bucknells student-run radio station, WVBU, according to officials.
Administration found out about a radio program that aired the previous Friday in which some students were using reprehensible, inappropriate, inexcusable language, Bucknell Vice President for Communications Andy Hirsch said.
Authorities say they heard about the foul language from someone at a local prison who was listening to the program. The three students were suspended on Thursday.
All the individuals involved are going to be held fully accountable for their actions, Hirsch said.
Students we spoke with tell Newswatch 16 they agree that the situation does not represent Bucknell University.
Obviously it was very unfortunate what happened and I hope that people understand its not all publications at Bucknell, Emma Sheehy said.
Its definitely not something that we want to be known for, Courtney Jonas said.
Hirsch tells Newswatch 16 Bucknell University wont tolerate the behavior.
It really goes against all the values of our community here at Bucknell, Hirsch said.
Oh, and what did the now expelled students say? What is the threshold Bucknell? You answer questions from the press and don't happen to mention what was even said?
To think my ancestor founded your cruddy little overpriced liberal arts cesspool.
My advice to students: Earn your degree online and watch every word you write.
A lot of options now, and cheaper.
No, you'd rather be known for your staunch opposition to free speech.
Well, if an inmate from the prison reported it, it had to be something like supporting Darren Wilson or questioning “hands up don’t shoot”
Yup...what I was thinking as well.
[A lot of options now, and cheaper.]
Online courses would eliminate much of the progressive brainwashing that goes on in college classes as well as the debauchery.
Of course if it were Muslims making anti Semitic comments, denying the Holocaust or blacks cursing out whites in crude terms, or gays demeaning Christians with their colorful language, doubt there would be an issue.
Have to wonder both what was said, and why Bucknell is taking tips from the boys at the prison.
"What the article and the official statements by the University spokesman Mr. Hirsch does not tell you is that seven people were present. That there were large quantities of alcohol (rum and coke in fact) consumed in the station prior to the recording and that the entire episode was meant to be a (clearly misdirected) parody of the Oklahoma incident, which came off miserably, and was never meant to be even on air. It was part of a drinking game where every one present was trying to out do each other."
So what did they say? Neither the article nor the accompanying video informs us.
See my post above. Sounds like they used the “n” word.
"I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense." |
It is okay for certain groups to offend people though
In other words, stupid people on the air.
I doubt that they said that Republicans should be killed.
It’s got to get hectic trying to censor every American in every corner of the nation. Gotta give ‘em credit though, they’re trying.
Colleges have become the worst defenders of free speech and the Constitution and have not been reprimanded as they should be. The PC world keeps glorifying them and they keep trying to get their respect - geez! When are they going to acknowledge that there are always two sides to an issue, not likely I’d imagine! Until the PC police (the news folks, the politicians and the idiots with their partisan issues) go away, it will never happen. We may well end up with censorship by the masses of PC idiots - what a mess that will be - and that mess seems to be growing!
Please teach the Constitution in Grade School as it never seems to become prominent in later years!
Only a captive audience would listen to campus radio.
Has the prisoner who lodged the complaint ever heard any racist comments (from prisoners, visitors, or staff) within the prison walls? Does he report them to the press and the warden?
