Well, flat would be a strange word for the surface of a sphere. Maybe something was lost in translation.

Equator or one of the poles? Mountain or sea level?

Shows what you know. It's turtles all the way down, young man.

The watt balance is mentioned. It would need to be used in a vacuum to get the precision needed (i.e. to remove the factor of the ball’s slight buoyancy in air).

A centrifuge was used to separate isotopes

You see? Iran is merely helping out the Weights and Measures guys who are working on this kilogram problem.

On the appropriate scale a frozen lake appears flat.

There is no absolute standard of measure. Every standard depends on some other. Pick something, and say it’s a kilo, and be done with it.

“I hope that the NEW kilogram will drop the sexism, racism, and bigotry of the current kilogram which is a product of dead white European males. It is way beyond time to fundamentally transform the kilogram.”

Tell me about it. There is NOTHING INCLUSIVE about a kilogram. It was invented by DEAD WHITE MEN, who would have jumped at the chance to own slaves. Perhaps it’s time that are basic unit of measurement started to look “more like the world”, instead of one greedy, forsaken, part of the world.

Thanks, I hadn’t considered that before.

Rosie O’Donnell gives it all she’s got, weighing in at nineteen stone.

precious object is—very gradually—losing weight

This isn't necessarily a bad thing; I've always wanted to weigh less.

By the way, how is the meter holding up? I've also always wanted to be taller.

That is true, but in usage it is a standard for weight and mass.

Those do weigh the same, however that volume of water is not the definition of a gram. The definition of a gram would be derived from the standard kilogram.
