Terrifically confusing for me as a little kid, because of Allen's first name and a contemporaneous ad campaign by Martini and Rossi. I wondered why a comedy team had wine ads on the back cover of National Review.

I used to think Marty Allen was the one who had that novelty song ‘Hello Muddah, Hello Faddauh (A Letter From Camp). Turns out that was Allan Sherman. I think Sherman started Alvin and the Chipmunks. The Chipmunks were as endearing as they were annoying. Alvin was the virtual ‘Honey Boo-Boo’ personality of the late 1950’s.
