Gilda Radner is long gone but I remember once hearing that she didn’t want to be associated with a catch phrase (though, you know, it’s always something...)—that is, be a comic who had to rely on a catch phrase to get laughs, people are expecting it—and she gave the example of Marty Allen with his “Hello Dere”.
(In one of his audiobooks Dennis Miller says the same thing then quickly adds, “’Course that’s just my opinion—hey, I COULD BE WRONG!”—one of his own catchphrases)
