Confused about stuffed animal on episode 1 of Walking Dead

I saw a very confusing scene from the first show maybe 4-5 episode. Rick has left Morgan and his son to look for Lori and Carl, he stops at a gas station he hears someone walking he gets down and looks under the cars. He see's the feet and legs of a little girl shuffling along, she stops reaches down and picks up a stuffed animal from the ground, he gets up the little girl is walking with her back to him. Rick calls out to the girl, she turns and starts coming towards him.

Her mouth has a large wound on the side, looks like a walker. When she gets closer Rick shoots and kills her! If she was a walker why would she bend down and pickup the stuffed animal!

Or did Rick kill a kid that was injured, I just can not decide which one to go with?

ZA-Survivor and walkerfan16 like this.

That’s actually Greg Nicotero - the guy who did all the special effects and zombie akeup creations for the show (and other horror shows).

He pops up as a different zombie in several different episodes.

It was a random zombie that Rick and Shane drove past in the second season. They were about getting to the realization that one of them would kill the other. As they were talking, Rick noticed the zombie in the field.

Looks like she’d already been shot a few times too - small caliber holes in her robe, jammies, etc.

Unless they were just splatters...

The first six episodes were just - amazing.

If you want to deal with reality, zombies have no circulatory system so there is no way for the food they eat to provide nutrition to the cells. Therefore a zombie would rot away to nothing in just a few weeks.

I think most of us watch them in spite of the gore.

Unfortunately in modern America, to watch an action or horror flick means that there will be gore involved.

Today the hero doesn’t just wrap his arm with his bandanna when he is shot, instead we have to watch him stitch it up with a needle and close up filming, and someone doesn’t just get shot in the stomach, today we have to watch 10 feet of intestines come out.

“Based on my experience with Zombies the little girl was a walker. Rick did the right thing.”

Yep. Based on my own long experience with zombies...

They try to wear you out with heartstrings pulling and inflict pointless moral hand-wringing upon their intended victims.

The zombie offensive is far more organized than most normals want to believe.

This is how I read it when I saw it at the time. It was hers before the change and seeing it triggered a latent, primitive memory. Enough to make her pick up the object.

Think of it as an allegory about the collapse of the urban welfare state. (Things would get pretty gruesome if the EBT cards stopped working.)

Of surprise to me is the depth of character development. The writers have gone far beyond the usual boob tube fare.

when they first started the series, the director had a different vision on how the walkers should behave then what was finally settled on when a different director was brought in. the original director wanted to give them a little more intelligence then what was the original comic book that the show was based on. the later directors and writer’s decided it was best to have it more in lines with the comic book.

WOW. Lot of dead fans here. Thanks. Didn’t know about the director change. Does Deanna eerily remind anyone of Hillary?

Who in their right mind would find this show remotely “entertaining”? Isn’t life disturbing enough? Don’t mind me; it’s an observation I make as I listen to several co-workers as they have their Monday morning discussion of the show.

I'm not good at symbols, but I think the red balloon is supposed to represent Rick's emotions/anger. When we first see the balloon tied to the boat, Rick has his anger under control. Later on, Sam lets go of the balloon and Rick lets go of his anger. Here are some other theories:

devil’s mockery of resurrection... I could just growl (okay, okay, okay, it’s a sick joke — I could just weep) at all the Christians, and/or supposed ones, who are getting jollies out of this!

Why quibble over a detail? The whole show makes no sense to me. Yes, I have tried watching it, but the gore is a bore, the characters are over-wrought, and the entire set-up is implausible.

Blood of Tyrants, I have SOOOOOO MANY physiological and physics questions about zombies that I can’t comprehend why I love the show so much. How can they keep moving on just brain power alone ... ?

I read an interesting article which stated that zombies wouldn’t last two weeks, between birds, insects and bacteria “cleaning up” dead material in the real world.

But of course, this ain’t the real world.
