A new patent granted to aircraft, defense and security company Boeing is taking its cues from science fiction. Just like the glowing energy shields seen protecting troops, machines and even spacecraft in Star Wars and Star Trek, the design -- named "Method and system for shockwave attenuation via electromagnetic arc" -- uses energy to deflect potential damage.

No way!
Now if we can just develop a Romulan Cloaking Device and a Transporter!
Just make sure you set the Heisenberg Compensators correctly.
Vaporware?
I want a replicator, and a tricorder would be very handy in my line of work.
I want a replicator too!
3D printers are getting pretty close!

Forget all that crap I would take an Sublight Impulse engine, that would allow for the colonization of the solar system and a way for us conservatives to escape this liberal cesspool.
[ Just deflects shock waves, well at least it’s a start. ]
So it isn’t shields, it is a deflector dish.....
And you can do damn near anything with a deflector dish, just ask voyager...

(Or...couldn’t we just export the libs instead?)
“that would allow for the colonization of the solar system”
Here ya go, maybe....

The story was overwritten. What Boeing did was simple enough. For a very short period of time, they can create a different density in the air that will reduce a blast wave, but cannot stop anything solid.
Theoretically, you have to demonstrate what you are patenting is feasible AND have a working model in order to have a patent granted. Of course, that’s all before Obama’s reign as dictator, so all bets are off about anything any part of the Feds do.
This force-field development aligns with 2002 work Boeing’s GRASP program’s been doing in anti-gravity propulsion, for which it was granted a patent.
Oh to know what’s fully going on in those Skunkworks labs!

Yet...
A guy can dream can’t he? ;-)
Airbus filed a patent for a cold fusion reactor.

As soon as you establish a decent conservative colony on Mars, the libs will try to emigrate. Living in a once conservative state that has been ‘Californicated’, I know whereof I speak.
Yes, but dreams grounded in reality have a much better chance of coming true. Real force fields might happen, but it will be a gradual process. The end result being a much better force field.
