Robin Thicke, Pharrell ripped off Marvin Gaye for hit 'Blurred Lines,' order to pay $7.3 million.

The similarities weren’t that blurry after all.

A Los Angeles federal jury found Tuesday that Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams copied Marvin Gaye’s 1977 hit “Got to Give It Up” when they wrote and recorded their hit song “Blurred Lines.”

The eight-person panel awarded Gaye’s heirs more than $7.3 million.

Williams and Thicke quickly issued an ominous warning through their reps, saying the verdict could have a chilling effect on future creativity.

"While we respect the judicial process, we are extremely disappointed in the ruling made today, which sets a horrible precedent for music and creativity going forward," the statement issued through Williams’ publicist and the duo’s lawyer said.

"Pharrell created 'Blurred Lines' from his heart, mind and soul and the song was not taken from anyone or anywhere else. We are reviewing the decision, considering our options and you will hear more from us soon about this matter,” it read.

“You haven’t heard the end of this by a long shot,” their lawyer Howard E. King told the Daily News after the verdict.

It was pretty obvious. They basically took the entire Marvin Gaye song and simply added a rap over it.

Oh, goody...more celebrity "look at me" crap.

What is an "Alan Thicke", anyway?

That is the father of a “Robin Thicke” I think.

Damfino.

I don't know who Robin Thicke is, either.

I wonder if this gives Madonna a new idea.... Lady Gaga’s BORN THIS WAY has portions of the song sounding very similar to her EXPRESS YOURSELF.

“the two are nothing alike”

Really? I don’t know if I’d call it a straight rip-off, but the similarities are there. Listen to this:

Then there’s country music (or at least what they call ‘country music’)

Thicke and Pharell should have just said that like Weird Al Yankovich, they intended this as a parody...

It was pretty obvious.
I don't listen to today's "music" so I had never heard “Blurred Lines” before.
But I did catch a news story this morning that played it and within 5 seconds I thouht - Hey, that's Marvin Gaye.
Obvious is an understatement.

There was a time when I would have accepted such pronouncements from a Los Angeles Jury as objective and fair, but after the O.J. Simpson trial, I no longer just assume Los Angeles jury verdicts are based on actual facts.

Now I want to see what the Jury looks like.

I think the case can be judged by ANY individual with a musical ear.

Just listen to “Blurred Lines” and Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up”.

Regardless of the jury’s racial makeup, the similarities are very obvious.

Similar beat, but not noticeably the same song, at least not to me. I'd like to see the sheet music and compare beats and notes.

Something makes me think that Thicke has already burned through the money.

It takes real skill to steal from Marvin Gaye and still produce a crap song.

RE: It takes real skill to steal from Marvin Gaye and still produce a crap song.

But it was last year’s biggest hit... what does that say about music appreciation nowadays?
