Apple is really “on” the issue of privacy! They’re probably the best company out there for that ... in their field.

"Nope - a good Walmart watch is just okay ..."

I had to wear a watch for my job...25 years. The day I retired in 2003, I threw it away. Haven't used one since.

There are many hundreds of Freepers (that I know about) who are conservatives ... and ... buying and using Apple Products!

Those are just the ones that I KNOW about. There’s no telling how many more there are that I don’t know about!

Pass that Apple Watch along to me, if you happen to have one given to you! ... LOL ...
++++
I’ll keep you in mind. I assume you know that it has to be charged daily and needs a companion iPhone to function.

What do plan to use it for?

I don’t wear a watch right now, either ... even that watch that I got at Kohl’s. It’s still working fine, in a drawer ... LOL ...

BUT ... I’m going to change my mind about a “watch” with the Apple Watch, not because I want to know the time, but because of the other things that it’s going to do for me. It’s not the “watch” that I want, you see ... :-) ...

I want to see a growing ecosystem for the Apple Watch and health products. That’s one area of very high interest to me. I don’t expect the current and brand new version of the Apple Watch to be everything that it can be ... with this first version. I had the very first version of the iPhone, too ... and I’ll guarantee you ... NO ONE would want that version now ... LOL ... The reason why is that Apple has advanced so far with it, as it stands today, with the iPhone, that no one could accept the version of iPhone, today, that it first came out at. But, that is simply “advancement” and is to be expected. And Apple is quite good at advancing their products!

Well, I like the idea of making quick checks about the weather without pulling something out of my pocket. And, the fact that you can see who is calling is great. How many times do you pull the phone out of your pocket to see who is calling? Then, there are the texts that you’ll get right on your wrist. Not all texts do I want to respond to, and I can just tap a button and say, “get back to you” ... with that touch of a button, and follow up later. Some texts, I’ll want to follow up right now. For example, the teacher at school will text me if there is a problem. I’ll want to know that one right away and I’ll respond immediately, as I have done before.

And since I’ll also get e-mails that I’ll want to respond to quickly, I’ll want to see certain e-mails. I’ll not use it as a way to actually interact with e-mail, as much as I’ll want to simply be “aware” of what is coming in, so I can leave most of it, and then only respond to one or two.

When I’m out riding a bike, around here a thunderstorm can come out of nowhere. I have been known to be riding back home very quickly in the midst of lightening and thunder, which is not supposed to be a good idea. I can track that, when out and about on the bike, with an alert system, and I have those alert apps because you need them around here in Tulsa (tornadoes, too ... doncha know ... :-) ...).

Those are some things I can come up with, off the top of my head. I’m sure when I get to using it more, I’ll find more. I’m not really sure of the extent of the health apps right now for it, but I expect it to be “big” with the Apple Watch, so I’ll have to see what develops in that area.

I metal detect at an oceanside beach. I find cell phones all the time. Maybe I’ll find one of those watches there. I hear they are making an 18 karat one. Gold is close to $1,200 an ounce.

I don’t care who makes the watch or what its technology is. I don’t care if it’s an Apple, a Rolex, or a dollar store POS.

I don’t like having anything wrapped around my wrist. It annoys me.

everything is ‘no’, and the expense is too much, for a watch that resembles one of those ‘swatch watches’ from the 80’s, with the red numbers!!!!

ps ... I had a white swatch watch that turned green, due to the natural oils in my skin.

LOL ... that process is pretty automatic even for a “dunce” to figure out. All you gotta have, is the right program for analyzing your stats on your website and you can pinpoint that in no time flat ... no NSA needed ... LOL ...

You should see the way the Apple Event started off this morning!! I haven’t seen even a small portion of it yet, but I will watch the full announcement later on today, or maybe tomorrow.

BUT ... it was amazing to see ALL THOSE CHINESE FACES at the LATEST Apple Store in China. I understand that they are building about 40 Apple Stores in China, by next year, which will be about 10% of all the Apple Stores in existence in the world! Amazing!

Who would have thought that we would be exporting so much American Technology to CHINA??! ... LOL ...

Today’s Apple Event!

And I love my iPhone 6 and my 4 month old iPad.

I still have the iPhone 5, the I-Pod, and Mac Book Pro, but have no plan to get the Apple watch.

I’ll probably get one at some point, but not the first generation model. This is a new product category, and while it will undoubtedly be successful, it will take some time for both the hardware and the application ecosystem built around it to mature. General rule is never buy a first generation product unless you have money to burn as the 2nd gen model will severely obsolete it. That’s been true with the iPhone, iPad, and AppleTV. I have no doubt the same will hold true for the Apple Watch.

Apple has been working on perfecting Liquid Metal technology for years through their Crucible partnership with LQMT and this product category is absolutely made for that and will help reduce costs significantly over the next few years. While impressive, those precision casting and CNC machining steps they highlighted in today’s launch are costly and wasteful.

Well it looks like you have big plans. Nice post - but I'm still not convinced that I would find any use for it. You are not, I assume, an Apple employee.😄😄😄

I found this thread using my Windows Lumia 1520 phone (larger and more powerful and better camera than the iPhone 6 Plus) and am typing my response using my Microsoft Surface Pro Tablet-PC (more powerful, touch-enabled, full PC beating Macbook Air).

No Apple products in my house.

Microsoft fights to keep my email private.
