Here's what most Indian men think about rape
Business Insider ^ | 03/04/2015 | MUNEEZA NAQVI, ASSOCIATED PRESS

When a condemned killer said the woman he and others brutally gang-raped on a New Delhi bus was responsible for what had happened to her, his comments were shocking in their callousness and lack of remorse. But the underlying view has wide acceptance in India.

Blaming women for rape is what hundreds of millions of men here are taught to believe.

And the code for women in this country is simple: Dress modestly, don't go out at night, don't go to bars and clubs, don't go out alone. If you break the code, you will be blamed for the consequences.

When one of the four men sentenced to death for the high-profile gang rape of the woman in 2012 was quoted in a new documentary as saying "a girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy," he was repeating something community and religious leaders in this nation of 1.2 billion routinely say.

"A decent girl won't roam around at 9 o'clock at night. ... Housework and housekeeping is for girls, not roaming in discos and bars at night doing wrong things, wearing wrong clothes," Mukesh Singh said in the documentary, "India's Daughter," meant to be shown on Sunday, International Women's Day, in India and several other countries.

But how different were the convicted rapist's words from comments that Manohar Lal Khattar, the top elected official of Haryana state made last year?

"If a girl is dressed decently, a boy will not look at her in the wrong way," Khattar told reporters, "Freedom has to be limited. These short clothes are Western influences. Our country's tradition asks girls to dress decently."

These views are progressive and enlightened compared to how the average Sandbox Muslim thinks.

Someone remind me again about how Christian teaching is so women-hating...

Christian teaching on the issue, in a nutshell:

1) People should dress modestly; this includes both men and women. (We can discuss how modest is "modest" at another time.)
2) Rape is the sin of the rapist; it is to be punished by the "sword" of the government, whose authority to punish criminals is granted it by God.

Judaism agrees with the above. Islam does not, Hinduism does not, Buddhism does not, Sikhism does not, Shinto does not.

So Ms. NOW, who is it that hates women?

Except there have been several high profile rapes where the girl in question was with a man who was beaten or killed while the woman was raped.

Modern feminism is simply hatred of men. It is not about equality, it is about having at least equality in all areas and superiority in as many as possible.

After all, all animals are equal, just some are more equal than others.

“it is to be punished by the “sword” of the government, whose authority to punish criminals is granted it by God.”

“it is to be punished by the “sword” of the government, whose authority to punish criminals is granted it by God.”

Paul describes the government as "a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil" (Romans 13:4 NASB), or in the original Greek, θεοῦ γὰρ διάκονός ἐστιν, ἔκδικος εἰς ὀργὴν τῷ τὸ κακὸν πράσσοντι. The word ὀργὴν is used elsewhere to refer to the wrath of eternal damnation, which combined with the reference earlier in the verse to "the sword" as an instrument of the government, makes the point clear: according to the Bible, God gives the government the authority to execute, or at the very least to punish, criminals. (And the "government" being referred to at that time was the Roman Empire under either Claudius or Nero.)

Why would this be surprising in India? The notion of, “karma,” suggests the victim had it coming.

The comments were enlightening. 3 from India said rape is viewed as evil by those they knew. Survey needed. Truth factor? Anyway, I trust the Bible for justice. Still don’t know if Jesus will be using Old Testament Law to rule the world, but I haven’t talked to a conservative rabbi yet.

I did find this post intriguing...

“The Indians also practice caste discrimination. They bring all that with them when they come here to take our jobs. Most of the Indians and Asians don’t like dealing with women in the work place, unless they are in low level jobs. That’s a big reason women in tech are leaving the industry.”

I have experienced a disdainful encounter or two or three when shopping in a store owned by someone from India. Lacking in customer service. I do shop a lot in one local deli where the young couple who own the store are very nice and are from India. The bad experiences could have been initiated by me though. Body language, perpetual frown from not wearing my reading glasses, etc. I should experiment.

This is true, but it’s only because of the legacy of British imperialism. Before the Brits, all Indians treated women with dignity and respect.
