Executive producer Gale Anne Hurd said she is more worried about “guns on the street” than the violence in her AMC series The Walking Dead.
"I worry more about the fact that we have guns on the street here," she said Feb. 11, speaking at Loyola Marymount University's School of Film & Television, where she took part in the ongoing Hollywood Masters interview series. "I mean, in Australia, countries around the world where they have the same entertainment, and they don't have the homicide rates that we do here, it's clear that there's another reason for it. [In] all my films, the antagonists are monsters or cyborgs, or you name it. The Walking Dead is the one [that's] different, and I found that it's inspired a debate about what does it mean to be human and can you justify resorting to this kind of brutality?”

WTF? After all that she’s put on the screen, I’m speechless.
Guns are a last resort weapon on the show because the noise attracts zombies.
Just last night Glenn stopped Maggie from shooting a trunk latch in frustration.

Yeah, Australia doesn’t have the demographic group that we do who commit the majority of violent crimes.
Maybe we should start taxing hollywood productions in the name of gun violence, say $10 for every depiction of a weapon and $20 every time a weapon is used. These taxes will be per Showing.
The areas in this country where the VAST majority of crimes involving firearms are committed, they are either banned or their ownership is made so inconvenient/expensive, no law abiding citizen goes through the hassle of owning one; especially for self defense.
On the other hand, I could probably choose three states that have FAR MORE firearms than Australia or Canada, and a fraction of crimes involving firearms. She is using statistics, as people usually do when they look to promote an opinion....
I’m sure Australia would welcome her, her money and liberal views with open arms.
The crime rate in U.S. cities was the same back when there were less guns due to expense. The thugs just stabbed each other to death.

Ugh. I like that show, too. I hope that she is going to be intellectually honest and remove all guns from the show. She could replace them with spitballs, hurled rocks, spears, etc.
True. They don't have the homicide rates we do. They have higher rates. But their murders are not listed as "gun deaths," since they're performed with fists and knives. Apples and oranges. The bottom line is that where personal crime is concerned, America is safer.
We also have a tendency to list defensive killings with homicide and the left refuses to accept the distinction. What America probably does have is the highest defensive shooting rate in the world and that’s a good thing.
Here’s a local example that looks like it will be ruled a justified shooting.
I also am (was) acquainted with a man who was stabbed to death by his wife on Saturday. Looks like she was severely beaten first so it will probably be ruled a justifiable homicide.
After this wonderful tip, I ran right outside to the street.
Sadly, there were no guns on the street.

We also have a more diverse population. A place like Australia or Canada has more homogeneity.
We seem to have every race and culture known to man in this country. Thus we have black and Hispanic gang wars, blacks playing knockout game on whites, Muslims planning attacks.
A country that has predominantly whites and indigenous Indians does not have so much strife, but our leaders seem to enjoy importing chaos.
