Good thing they dont make horrible screeching noises or more of them would be taken out.
Non-native vermin.
Anyone who has lived with peahens and peacocks will understand why someone would shoot them.
They taste like chicken.
Oh, hey, guess the SPCALA is claiming ownership of these domesticated animals and all the homeowners in the area should start filing small claims cases against them for damage caused by their birds.
Does CNN have a camera in a helicopter circling the scene to provide coverage of this earth-shaking story?
The Peacocks are as loud as they are beautiful.
They can also be aggressive, putting those long talons to full tearing up use. Just like Canada Geese, they are charming and a few can add a positive ambiance to an outdoor setting.Who doesn’t like watching a mother goose followed by all her fuzzy ducklings? Too many creates a nasty, noisy mess!
You get a gaggle of them going at it in your front lawn.. Oh yeeeahhh..
Fortunately.. The wild turkeys here are very well behaved.
If the birds are roaming freely then they are either; feral birds and a public nuisance which should mean that state wildlife officers do not care if you kill them or they do belong to someone then that person is guilty of failure to contain and control his animals.
Either way I can certainly sympathize with the person who has been shooting these birds.
I work a rotating shift and I cannot imagine trying to sleep during the day with those obnoxious birds screeching outside my house.
The local zoo has them. When the females are otherwise occupied with the babies, the males will pursue anyone or anything female. I had a big male once follow me around most of the zoo. Goofy thing even displayed his plumage for me. I had to duck into the indoor aquarium to get away from him.
My aunt & uncle lived there and when I visited them, you could hear them quite clearly.
Too bad. /s
How can anyone give a flying (fornication) when bearded savages are burning people alive?
Some people out here keep them with their ducks, chickens, guineas, etc. They are a good alarm system, too and eat less than a donkey or llama-you get used to the noise-my dog doesn’t even howl back at them. But I’m in BFE-a rural area not a subdivision, and the peacocks are confined like other fowl...
Peacocks = guineas with elaborate, colorful plumage
Guineas can make some noise, too
I like birds, but the owners of these birds should keep them in their own yards.
The peacocks were let loose their in the 20s or 30s, IIRC, to lend ambiance to the area (and thereby sell real estate). It’s quite charming to drive through the area in the late afternoon and see them walking around or sitting on people’s roofs.
Yes, they are not potty trained and they are loud, but everybody knew that, or should have, when they moved in. And if the population is getting too out of hand, people could collect the eggs. The local 4-h group was at one point accepting eggs, intending to hatch and sell, or something like that.
The guy who is shooting them however... this is not good. It’s a populated area, with kids and horses, etc. He’s going to miss and hit a person or a pet. That’s gotta stop.
