Federal health regulators have approved an attention deficit disorder drug for a new use: A first-of-its kind treatment for binge-eating disorder. […]

The Food and Drug Administration originally approved Vyvanse in 2007 as a once-a-day pill for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. On Friday, the agency cleared the drug for adults who compulsively overeat.

Vyvanse, known chemically as lisdexamfetamine dimesylate, is part of a family of drugs that stimulate the central nervous system. The drug’s prescribing label warns that Vyvanse has a “high potential for abuse and dependence,” and doctors should monitor patients for signs of dependence. …

Back to using speed to cure obesity. Definitely not “first of its kind”.

Side effects include:

"fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeats;

decreased blood pressure (feeling light-headed, fainting);

tremor, restlessness, hallucinations, unusual behavior, or motor tics (muscle twitches); or

dangerously high blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, buzzing in your ears, anxiety, confusion, chest pain, shortness of breath, seizure).

Less serious side effects may include:

loss of appetite, weight loss;

sleep problems (insomnia);

nausea, vomiting, stomach pain; feeling irritable; mild skin rash; or

dry mouth or an unpleasant taste in your mouth".

Okay so it cuts your appetite and maybe you lose weight, but then you can't sleep so now you need a downer, Oh yeah sign me up. Another miracle drug that might cure you, unless it kills you. And what happens when you stop taking it, do you go back to binge eating?

So we get a drug with a great chance of dependency to overcome an eating disorder ... sounds like trading one dependency for another.

Fiber One (tasty and most fiber) in the morning and some teaspons of chicken salad on low salt Triscuits later (keeps the morning drill regular...Ha). I'm still 32 waist from my early twenties now at 65. Plus, I'm on the treadmill 20 minutes every other day. The wife is in great shape, also.

It's not difficult to maintain low body fat. Still, we go out and enjoy a juicy steak and garlic mashed potatoes about once a week.

Hey PETA, I said "juicy steak". Got problem?

" decreased blood pressure...dangerously high blood pressure..."

While watching the disclaimers for medicine adds on TV, I once said to the wife, "If you wake up dead, contact your Doctor immediately"

First they look the other way as states exercise “states’ rights” (in a way) to legalize cannabis, and now they’re re-legalizing speed via avenues such as this. Funny, ain’t it. Giving us the “Brave New World” while pushing the “Nineteen Eighty-Four” through the back door.

No thanks. I discovered something strange, not sure what it could be but I can guess. I decided to make a soup recipe that I saw. The soup contained chicken, carrots, cabbage and red potatoes. I boiled the chicken (I prefer Wings) along within the carrots . Then later I tossed in the cabbage and potatoes (diced into small squares). Then I tossed in 1 Basil leaf, but for some reason I wanted more flavor so I added like 7 leaves. Let it boil until cabbage and potatoes are cooked - then serve. Having 7 leaves did not over power the chicken soup but it all equally blended perfectly.

I notice after eating the soup in a very small bowl, I felt very filled and satisfy. I had no need to snack in between meals. I have been making this soup a lot more and notice I do not snack. It leaves me filling full for several hours. My doctor thinks because it is a high fiber meal. I suspect it is the Basil, who knows but it seems that Basil has a natural appetite suppressant I later learned. Who knows but I find it weird that I no longer have a desire to snack after eating this soup. No way would I want to take drugs to cure something only to have another issue pop up.

That’s interesting. When our basil comes back in the spring, I’ll try throwing some in my vegetable soup, instead of spinach.

Those side effects are mild compared to many of the drugs advertised on TV with the prompter, “Ask your doctor if this deadly concoction is right for you.”

When we eat Pho, we always put fresh basil into the soup. I could eat a small bowl of that daily. Mmm It is very filling, and I never eat a whole bowl of it.

Many years ago, I knew several women who took their sons’ ADHD a meds for weight control. One of them loved the pills because they could get so much work done and lose weight at the same time. They were all crazy IMO. If you have ever seen children on this med and watched them at meal time, it is enlightening and depressing. They don’t eat. :(
