The Rev. Jesse Jackson says the states are “undermining the right to vote" by locking up people in for-profit prisons.
Jackson joined House Democratic Reps. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) and Mark Pocan (D-Wis.) at a press conference in Washington last Thursday where they introduced a constitutional amendment that would put elections under federal control to guarantee the right to vote to every American, including those in prison.
"Most of these states now, they're using privatized jails for two purposes: one, to disenfranchise voters, because once you’ve been to jail it’s more difficult to vote. And two, it’s a profit-making industry. So that, if you’re in jail “x” number of days, the Corrections Corporation of America gets paid. They must be guaranteed 90 percent occupancy. Jail becomes a daycare center or a homeless shelter for so many people. It’s a profit-making industry -- jails are for profit. And so the growth of the jail industry and also in many places, the jail labor force, undermines the domestic labor force.

Do they really think they can get 3/4 of the states to ratify an amendment that strips them of their right to manage their own elections? Man, they must be even more deluded that we thought.

They commited crimes and need to get the message to stop taking advantage of others and never deprive another out of the value if anything.

All 50 states have a process whereby convicted felons can vote, some easier than others. Most only require that the felon has served his/her time. Maine and Vermont allow felons to vote while incarcerated.
Prisons for profit are still more honorable than racist antagonism for profit...

Jackson and the rest of the race card players and other liberals want a federal law, thereby infringing on state’s rights even more, their goal is to pass a federal law, modeled on Maine and Vermont, where they pass out absentee ballots to all inmates in every prison.

My late brother-in-law served 23 years in prison, he told me that based on personal observation, convicts tend to be like the general population in their politics, with younger cons being liberal and the older ones conservative.
The majesty of the civil rights movement of the 60's has morphed into the 'protect thugs and rapists' disgrace of our time. Jesse needs to grow up - the last thing we need is convicted criminal, serial killers and child rapists voting... Is Jesse nuts? Evil? Corrupt beyond words?
Criminals can have their voting rights restored AFTER they've served their time. Which is as it should be... AFTER... NOT while...
