There used to be a time when one could spend his entire career working for IBM and retire comfortably.

THOSE DAYS ARE GONE.

translation: They had prepared 100,000 layoffs until they received a call from the White Hut and got their minds right.

But...but...the economy is BOOMING! Ask any liberal, who now thinks that the unemployment rate and stock market are tell-tale signs of a strong economy!

“the plan was to give the people notice before January 28th so they would be off the books by the end of February — one month.”
BS. Federal law says you have to give 60 days notice.

How many months until these former workers drop out of the work force so that unemployment rate can go down?

Gone are the days where you can spend your entire career at any company. I have been laid off three times in the past 10 years.

Attrition plus a few thousand layoffs and they will be fine.

Mostly if you’re talking about First World countries. The other part to the story is that IBM is cagey about US job numbers, but is less so when talking about offshore numbers.

The new idea seems to be to pass people off from contractor to contractor with the false hope that it goes “permanent” or is “regularized”. Not entirely good if you want to attract a good workforce, but fine if one desires easier management. Not sure about you, but this model of work reflects unhealthy economies as opposed to healthy ones - especially with the decline of business creation.

There used to be a time when one could spend his entire career working for IBM just about any U.S. company and retire comfortably.

For those who don't believe in themselves, the only source of job security anymore is Nanny Government. No wonder it keeps bloating.

BTW did you see today's bad news on home sales, durable goods, earnings...?

We are entering a perfect storm of technological advance, human miseducation and undereducation, globalist labor efficiencies, obsolescence, and political and social upheaval.

People will be giving away their flat screen televisions in exchange for a mouthful of bread.
