Surprised he didn’t scratch his crotch and spit.
When I quit 11 years ago, my Dr. warned me off any patches, gum, pills, or any nicotine substitute.
Told me the physical addiction is gone in 72 hours.
Now, I’m sure some FReepers will disagree, but the psychology of it was enough to get me over the hump.

Quit cold turkey in Montevideo business trip when I ran out of American sigs and the local brands were unsmokable.

It was a good month until it even started to get easier for me.
I did in all fairness quit going to bars. Completely.

For the past week Obama has been raging at Bibi Netanyahu for not following protocol by ‘’inappropriately’’ agreeing to accept a Congressional speaking invitation — as if Obama were Emily Post aghast that Bibi had used the wrong fork — yet now we learn that Obama has been acting like an uncouth imbecile by ostentatiously chewing gum in the face of his host during a solemn ceremony in India.
That is just wrong.

I started smoking seriously at age 16, sigs, cigars, pipe, but never did illegal drugs.
I still have a set of expensive pipes (including meerschaum) that I don’t know what to do with.
I had the same question. I think his continual use of it means he still smokes.
That was also something I did. But it took me several months to get over the habit of reaching into my pocket at certain times of the day
