I was thinking about an upcoming event where I will be forced to go into a venue sans gun on my hip because of metal detectors and thought of a way where the law-abiding could carry guns into public venues and metal detectors could be done away with (though this latter point will likely never happen, I admit).
Through the creation of a new database containing all violent criminals, the venues could turn away people with no subjectivity. They would even be given the option of levels of information of violent criminals. With an instant background check, people with a violent criminal past could be given a “V”, Recidivists could be given an “R” and a combination of the two could be given a Red Flag. You would not knowingly allow violent criminals into your home; why should venues be forced to allow them in?
There will be people who claim it is not “fair” and that those people who are criminals have “served their time”. However, we always see violent criminals get their time pled down or they make a bargain, or the judge gives a child rapist 2 years. How is “serving time” in this instance any sort of real justice?
I am cognizant that the criminal class has their own hero in AL “Shake em Down” Sharpton so also have an idea to address this issue before it comes up. Race and Ethnic data could be removed from the database entirely as that is not needed to render a decision as it is solely based upon the history and driver's license number.
Shoot holes in this idea......I think it could work.
Great plan. And once it’s up and running, the database can be fine-tuned with the addition of various and sundry undesirables, deadbeats, political foes and people with less than 25 “likes” on facebook.
I guess the government will make sure the database is accurate, secure, and free from abuse and bad judgment.
The problem is that, as with many of the previous shooters, they weren’t “violent criminals” until the rampage that put them on the front page (Lanza, Holmes, Hassan, Loughner et al). It’s a nice idea, but wouldn’t solve the problem.
No system can predict the future. This system would simply disallow those in using the best possible evidence.
Anyway, this idea of yours is inevitable, the way I see it.
Given the growing prevalence and number of violent criminals in our society, and the fact that the “justice” system refuses to impose true justice, a system of this sort is going to be necessary at some point in the future.
Yes. And so will some positive identification indicating citizenship in good standing.
Yeah that might work out almost as well as TSA screenings at airports and No Fly Lists have worked these past 14 years. But hey hope springs eternal sooooo lets swap a bit more liberty for another helping of temporary illusion of ‘safety’.
