A source within the NFL tells wthr.com's Bob Kravitz that the league is investigating the possibility that the Patriots deflated footballs in their 45-7 win over the Colts Sunday night.
The source told Kravitz that officials took a ball out of play at one point and weighed it.
A deflated football could potentially be easier to throw and catch in poor weather conditions than a properly inflated ball.

Just simple physics - one can more easily squeeze vs a fully inflated that is larger, harder and less “gripable.
Anyone who has played street football or even just passing it would grasp that reality.

The real scandal is that supposedly a professional football team from Indianapolis traveled to New England to play in the AFC Championship game and rolled over.
Measuring the diameter of the ball would probably be more accurate a method in determining the inflation without using a pressure gauge.
The trick for the person who is purportedly deflating the ball though is to know how much is enough?
What I see here in many of the post on this thread is so very indicative of our times.
1. If I cheat, but the other side does play as well as I do then it isn’t really cheating.
2. If I cheat, but in very clever way not only am I not punished, but am lauded for my cleverness.
3. If cheat as long as I win “What deference does it make?”
With the same balls, controlled by the same refs. This is hokum.
And how they made the field goal posts narrower for Indy’s kick, and wider for the Pats...lol.

Tha Patriots are the winningest team in the history of the NFL, and it has nothing to do with "cheating," and everything to do with an absolute commitment to excellence. Sad to say, America used to honor this.

The Pats had regular size balls. They deflated them a bit. Then the Colts had larger balls. But the Pats still won. Size matters?

Clearly the refs handed different balls to the Colts every time they gained possession. As for the weather, it’s obvious Pats owner Krafty Bob had planes seed the clouds over Gillette Stadium to produce rain (unrelated to the other rain falling in New England at the time) :)

The fact is Indy played horribly. They CAN NOT stop the run. They had virtually no pass rush. They never controlled the line of scrimmage, EVER. You can not throw it to TY Hilton every down. Vinitari has never kicked well outdoors. If I was an Indy fan, I would be embarrassed. Baltimore was a better team.
The fact is the two best teams in the league are in the Super Bowl.
Actually nobody on this thread is saying any of those things. What’s being said is “how would they do this since they don’t control the balls during game time, and why would they bother since both sides play with the same balls not controlled by them during game time”. Simply put this is just a silly accusation. If the refs weighed any balls (a big if) it was probably because they were worried it had gotten too wet and too heavy to be usable, not that a basically undetectable (especially by weight, in the rain) amount of air had been taken out.
You, babble-on, are clearly the one who is seriously that stupid. How would any person change the air content of the ball, while on national television, during a game and not be challenged by the referees?

A deflated football weighs the same as in inflated football. If they took it out of play to weigh it then they know football but not science.
