CBS suspended basketball analyst Greg Anthony indefinitely following his arrest Friday evening on a charge of soliciting a prostitute, a network spokeswoman said.

The 47-year-old former NBA player was arrested around 5.46pm and released later that evening, District of Columbia Police Lt Kelvin Cusick said.

'Greg Anthony will not be working again for CBS this season,' said a spokeswoman for the network. Turner Sports also suspended Anthony, but said it 'will have no further comment.'

Anthony faces a misdemeanor charge of solicitation, which is punishable by up to 180 days in jail.

Media reporter John Ourand tweeted Thursday afternoon that Anthony was scheduled to announce Saturday's game between Michigan State and Maryland game alongside Ian Eagle.

Anthony started his NBA career with the Knicks and played in New York for four years before being picked up by the Vancouver Grizzlies in the 1995 NBA expansion draft.

He finished with the Milwaukee Bucks after 11 seasons in the NBA, averaging 7.3 points per game over his entire career.

Anthony has also been politically involved, appearing in a Nevada campaign ad for Mitt Romney during his 2012 presidential bid, calling the Republican Party nominee a 'no excuse kind of guy.'

It still amazes me that Bill Clinton solicited sex with an employee and remained on the job. But sports announcer, gone.

What an odd bit of info to include.

I'll be looking for political affiliations to accompany other stories of athletes transgressing the law in the future.

Well, Anthony had a few things going against him...first of all he apparently was a GOP member. Second, different from Clinton he was just a BB announcer...Clinton on the other hand was just doing what he was doing to the US then and since.

Unless he was married, this was a victimless crime.

Prostitution should be decriminalized. Ban street-walking and force the prostitutes to register online and get quarterly health checkups.

What adults do is none of the state's business. How is this different than picking up a chick at a bar?

This is amazing to think he is suspended by CBS. CBS pushes all sorts of depraved immoral behaviors in their programming. Yet this guy is arrested and is taken off the air, apparently due to offending the sensibilities of CBS management which pushes immorality on all of us.

Jeez, CBS suspended him INDEFINITELY for THIS? It must have been a female prostitute (or female cop). Had it been a male, CBS would have likely given him a reality show.

Letterman confessed to a number of affairs with interns on his show, but CBS didn’t impose any sanctions Against him. So why impose sanctions against this annoucer? Does CBS really have standards which were violated or do they make it up as they go along???

Decriminalized my foot - prostitution and solicitation are constitutional rights, found in the same place one finds the constitutional right to homosexual marriage.
