I’m starting to think that flu shots are getting less and less beneficial...in the same way that common antibiotics are becoming ineffective.
something showed up on 12/2 and kicked my butt for 2 weeks and is still hanging on a bit
I had H3N2 earlier this month. Of the flus I’ve had, this was not the worst.
I’ll go get a ‘flu’ shot when every employee of the CDC goes on TV and every one gets a shot, too.
The bugger of it is that you go and get a flu shot, and when your immune system is challenged, you leave yourself wide open to any strains not included in the current vaccination.
The hospital I work at is full to the brim and overflowing. DH works at a different hospital and just got called in early for his shift today d/t high volume
Got a flu shot. No flu so far. Evidently, the shot covered only 3 strains. It was a crap shoot as to what strain(s) might run the country this season.
All three of ours (six, three, and 15 months) had bacterial pneumonia. We wouldn’t have known except for their fevers. Our doc was impressed at how “well” they were with pneumonia. High quality multivitamins, extra D3, and gobs of probiotics help!
Two people I know were in the hosp with pneumonia and/or flu in last few weeks, and my mom and I are sick with something that is moderately bad. If I had no responsibilities and had insurance, I would go to the doctor, it is borderline bad enough.
My wife’s step-father died last week in Illinois after being weakened by the flu, he was 90.
It’s gripped by the grippe?..................
Don’t know which strain I had this past February, but it really sucked. Beat me up for 10 days and took about 1 month before I felt 100%.

Gee, I wonder why the strains are mutating so? Duh!
got it about 12/23 - spent Christmas in bed - just feeling slightly better today, excepting my full chest and asthma
3) Colds and Flu
The flu virus causes the most illness in the winter months, leading some researchers to hypothesize that influenza may be related to vitamin D levels. Vitamin D levels are lowest during the winter. Also observational studies have found that people who have low vitamin D levels are more likely to get respiratory infections or report having a recent cold or upper respiratory tract infection.
A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition examined the use of vitamin D (1,200 daily) or a placebo in nearly 340 children during the winter months. After four months, researchers found that the rate of influenza type A was approximately 40 percent lower than in the placebo group, with no significant difference in influenza type B rates.
Got the flu shot, got the flu anyway. Fever, chills (unusual for me), and copious amounts of mucus only Tylenol Severe Cold seems to work on (at all).
Can someone give an explanation or two as to why the entire south is in the high range?
