CHURCHILL’S SISTER-IN-LAW URGED HIM NOT TO CONVERT TO ISLAM
Breitbart ^ | December 28, 2014 | Donna Rachel Edmunds

Posted on 12/29/2014 10:30:31 AM PST by C19fan

One of the nation’s best loved countrymen, Winston Churchill is best remembered for his role in overcoming the Nazi threat, and later for denouncing the Soviet regime’s Iron Curtain. But few are aware of his fascination with the orient and his strong admiration for Islam, which even led him to adopting Arab attire in private. Now a newly uncovered letter sent to Churchill by his future sister-in-law has revealed that, such was his obsession, she was moved to urge him not to convert to Islam.

In 1907, Churchill wrote to Lady Litton: “You will think me a pasha [rank of distinction in the Ottoman Empire]. I wish I were.” In the same year, Lady Gwendoline Bertie, who would go on to marry Churchill’s brother Jack wrote to him in order to urge him to rein in his obsession with all things Oriental, saying: “Please don’t become converted to Islam; I have noticed in your disposition a tendency to orientalise [fascination with the Orient and Islam], Pasha-like tendencies, I really have.”

Putting this into historical context Europeans, especially in the social circles Churchill hung out with, became obsessed with the East. It was quite common for people to take a photograph dressed up in I am going to use the term Oriental dress. Asian art was popular and had a major influence on art movements at the time.

This looks like an ideal place for you to write a rebuttal!

Admiration of Islam my ass, what he wrote about Islam in ‘The River War’ would have got him locked up today. In fact, somebody who quoted from it was indeed locked up for doing just that.

Hang on! I've seen a quote attributed to Churchill in which he clearly states what *we* all know to be true...that followers of the Religion of Pieces are worthless medieval knuckledraggers.

Of course he didn't put it *quite* that bluntly.

Such conduct symbolizes the rejection of ones own culture. Remember the meditation craze with the Beatles who joined with some eastern fraud.

Revisionist BS! Among many similar criticisms of the goat-humping savagely insane Islamic death cult, Churchill wrote, "The mohammedan is either at your throat or at your knee."

That doesn't sound like any sort of positive endorsement.

“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity.

The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities – but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. ..."

Indeed. And that book was published in 1899. Sounds like someone’s trying to take things out of context for the purpose of sensationalism.

Thank you for debunking this idiotic example of revisionist bilge!

With admirers as Churchill, Islam doesn’t need detractors.

CHURCHILL’S TAKE ON ILSAM

Churchill’s Views on Islam:

This is amazing. Even more amazing is that this hasn’t been published long before now.

“Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it.
No stronger retrograde force exists in the world.”

CHURCHILL ON ISLAM
Unbelievable, but the speech below was written in 1899… (check Wikipedia – The River War). The attached short speech from Winston Churchill, was delivered by him in 1899 when he was a young soldier and journalist. It probably sets out the current views of many, but expresses in the wonderful Churchillian turn of phrase and use of the English language, of which he was a past master.

Sir Winston Churchill was, without doubt, one of the greatest men of the late 19th and 20th centuries. He was a brave young soldier, a brilliant journalist, an extraordinary politician and statesman, a great war leader and British Prime Minister, to whom the Western world must be forever in his debt. He was a prophet in his own time. He died on 24th January 1965, at the grand old age of 90 and, after a lifetime of service to his country, was accorded a State funeral.

HERE IS THE SPEECH:

“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries, improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement, the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome …”Sir Winston Churchill; (Source: The River War, first edition, Vol II, pages 248-250 London).Churchill saw it coming……

By most accounts Churchill was agnostic, and suspicious of all religions, especially Islam, although his misgivings about Christianity lessened as he grew older.

The letter in question was written in 1907, when Churchill was 32 or 33. He obviously lived to outgrow his youthful enthusiasms.

Churchill probably never ever contemplated converting to Islam or anything else.
Churchill was not a religious person per se and never regularly attended church services for a great deal of his life.
Last year I was able to finally read the 3rd volume of William Manchester's bio on Churchill and it referred to his lack of religious interst. So take it all in context of revisionist historians.

Our FRiend ConorMacNessa is aware of some other writings of Sir Winston, which I am sure he will be happy to post upon his arrival home from work! :-)

I think his “admiration” for Islam (being a Pasha, etc.) centered on the ability to run around in bed sheets and keep a collection of young women. I believe most young men in the West have this type of admiration. It’s known as “sewing your wild oats.”

Yeah I call BS! Aside from his noted criticism of Islam and Islamic culture, Churchill drank way too much scotch to ever convert to Islam! So Churchill liked eastern fashion? I cant blame him, the Ottomans had well dressed soldiers.
