Cop charged with choking and beating a HOSPITAL PATIENT

Full title: Cop charged with choking and beating a HOSPITAL PATIENT - after he tried to claim the victim attacked him but was caught on video

A San Francisco sheriff's deputy allegedly choked and beat a hospital patient who walked with a cane - then lied on the police report to cover his tracks. Michael Lewelling, 33, was accused of approaching a sleeping man as he started to wake up, knocking away his walking cane, grabbing his neck, then arresting him. He then filed a police report claiming that the man started the fight by attacking him with the cane, according to authorities, who say surveillance video proves he was lying.[snip]

The video shows Lewelling approaching the victim as he is starting to wake up. When the man attempts to walk away, the deputy grabs the back of his collar, pulls him back into the seat and knocks his cane away. 'A few seconds later, he appears to grab the victim's throat and begins to choke him. The battery continued, and the victim was then placed under arrest,' prosecutors said. 'The victim never raised his cane in a threatening manner,' they added.

Are you going to answer me,

Sure. Ask me a question. As long as it's not along the lines of "when did you quit beating your wife?".

Are you speaking to me?

Yes.

Who is attributing actions to others in your above statement?

I am. Based on the fact that your first posts to me were almost identical. You wanted me to give some 'justification' for the officer's attack on the man, so you could attack it. No matter what I would come up with, it would be WRONG in your mind, and your goal is to prove others WRONG, and yourself RIGHT. And you are positive that you are never WRONG.

Do I have that just about RIGHT ?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Already did. Here is is again:
How then would you characterize it, assuming that it happened as the story was written?

If you are characterizing the above question as similar to “when did you quit beating your wife”, then please explain the connection to me and the others because I, for one, am missing it.

okay, there are good cops and there are bad cops. i wish all were good, ubt with quotas and human nature and stupidity they all aren’t and never had been. it makes a bigger societal difference b/c these people can legally kill and courts are predisposed to believe them.

you don’t like hearing about good cops? too damn bad. it’s important to hear both kinds of stories b/c both occur.

you don’t like hearng about bad cops? too damn bad. they ruin it for the good ones and the good ones would do themselves and us a favor not to protect them with the blue line.

I answered that question already. Did you not see it ?

But since you went to the trouble, I'll answer again.

It is a mystery right now because we know nothing of what led to the attack.

For further clarification, no citizen or cop has the right to assault a person regardless to what happened, but that doesn't mean they won't.

An explanation of what led to the attack would make it more understandable.

Do you think the cop just randomly walked into the hospital and attacked this guy for no reason ?

I’d rather not call you a noob, but your comment makes it seem like you are one.

SunkenCiv often posts lists like this on the threads where he tries to list various LINKS that relate to the SAME incident,

I guess you can call me what ever suits you, I have been called about everything.

Yes I recognized that the various links were on the same story.

Why should I be thanking him, and i was not complaining but just pointing it out.

Welcome to the club.

i was not complaining but just pointing it out.

Maybe it's just because I am used to him posting links like that that led me to misread your comment.

I don’t know if you are serious or just yanking my chain.

Assuming you are serious(and more importantly to explain the relevance to your first comment), a noob is someone relatively ‘new’ to FR (or anything else on the planet) who seems to be inexperienced in certain aspects or patterns.

For instance, noting that all SunkenCiv’s links were about the same thing. If you aren’t used to seeing those kind of posts from him, you might not understand ‘why’ they all related to the same incident.

That is all I was trying to get across. As I said, what you meant and what I thought you meant were probably two different things. Consider it my fault.

I would say its no ones fault, but i don`t remember hearing of him as i very seldom come to this forum, i can create enough of a bra ha on the religious forum.

At any rate it did not take me long to figure it out, i was just being kind today-—Thanks.

I was only trying to get you all the way there in terms of an unqualified rejection of the alleged behavior. Then I went to dinner, well Wendy’s. Ha!

“Do you imagine there is some back story that would justify such behavior by a sworn police officer?

I can’t say that the back story would justify such behavior, but I have little doubt there is a motivation for it. “

I think his point wasn’t that there is something to ‘justify’ this, so much as explain this. Motivations can be proper, and improper. There is a reason this happened, even if that ‘reason’ is lacking proper reason.

Of course, this could just be a case of the patient had some criminal issue, and the cop was just being a thug about it. That happens plenty.

Cheer up. 2 Cops were just shot in Brooklyn. That oughta make you happy.

Wow - a man on a mission. Most of us look at the cop stories on a case-by-case basis and call a good shoot when we see one and a overreach of power and possible murder of innocent citizen when we see that. We reneder prayers for those killed in line of duty, especially for those who were ambushed.

You seem to only be focused on the generalization of a bad rap due to those who do the dirty deeds and would rather ignore that sometimes it happens.

Perhaps your therapist can help you sort it out.
