The New York borough of Queens has been given top spot in a list of the best places to visit in the US next year. The sprawling suburb, traditionally off the tourist map, has beaten a host of America's most famous destinations in an annual 'Best in the US' ranking compiled by Lonely Planet. The list praised Queens' microbreweries, beaches, global food offerings and world-class art scene.

They said visit.
They said nothing about returning home safely.
Tell me about it, Queens is now the illegal capital of the country. I use to live there in Woodside which is now 90% illegals, right up Roosevelt avenue is where they go to get fake IDs. And what exactly is there to see? the Mets? Watch them lose? This guy isn’t taking meth, he is mainlining it.
LOL Queens we would speed through Queens back in the day. Who makes up these things?
"Queens: A few neighborhoods are nicer than the Bronx."
Grandparents lived in Woodhaven.
If I absolutely had to visit a city I guess I'd go to Victoria BC. No American cities I can think of that I'd want to visit. Oakland? No thanks.
...said nobody ever.
Named so by whom.
My first thought exactly :). I’ve never been to New York so my knowledge is completely limited to how movies/tv present it.
LoL! White hipsters looking for the “real” urban experience after they sterilized the Village and Tribeca, sanitized Manhattan, colonized Harlem and gentrified Brooklyn?
The Bronx will be the next stop!
I would never visit NYC
Meth for sure. Queens was very multiracially safe and interesting two decades ago. I visited for a couple of days, enjoyed a nice Afghani restaurant, etc. Now, I truly doubt the safety part.
As for Oakland, it’s never been safe. My uncle, a WW2 vet, warned me when I was a tiny girl: “Never go to Oakland, you could get killed.”
Still excellent advice.
There are Hipsters in Harlem? I would have thought pasty, toothpick-thin hipsters would be fair game for the local youths.
Harlem today is not what you see in movies from the 1970s. Crime is way down; the black middle class has been rehabbing the old brownstones, and they don't tolerate "yutes" who would hurt their newly-soaring property values.
Neither would I. My parents have started to take our kids (two at a time) on one big, special trip. In a few years it will be our older girls’ turn. As our daughters are ballet dancers, one of the ideas is New York for a ballet performance. I’ve said absolutely not, but I’m know to be overprotective so mom and dad just laugh and brush me off. I really do not want any of my children there. Ever.
Crime rates in New York today are a fraction of what they were two decades ago.
This is satire, right?
