McDonald's is bringing touchscreen ordering to the US
Engadget via MSN ^ | 12/9/14 | Daniel Cooper

It turns out that people aren't eating as many McHamburgers as they used to, which is a big problem if your business is all about slinging meat. So McDonald's is hoping the novelty of its "Create Your Taste" ordering kiosks will lure some customers back in. The machines will be installed in 2,000 of its US outlets by the end of 2015.

Eventually you’ll order from your cell phone.

If I order a #1 Combo, they ALWAYS ask me if I want to supersize my fries? Supersize my drink?

I answer the question before they ask it. I want small fries. Small drink. I guess it fries their brain.

I hope hand sanitizer is available after using one of those touch screens.

Buy some disposable gloves.

I have not yet been to Chick Fil A. I’ve heard their customer service is better than most fast food places.

Their customer service is better than many full service restaurants.

Their standard response to any request is "my pleasure" and they seem to really mean it.

I tried and tried to explain to them that if the damn thing shows I’m getting 20 miles to the gallon and I fill it up and it holds 20 gallons
= = = = = = = = = = = = =
Back when I was working in Asphalt I got to ‘learn’ a lot about the ‘labor class’ and some of their idiosyncrasies. One of the things I noticed was that if a laborer figured he needed 15 dollars a week to hold him to the next payday he would get 15 bucks worth and refer to it as a fillup.

Couple of years ago during one of the current gasoline spikes a young lady was putting gas in her car and a reporter/reporterette was talking to her. She finished pumping and they asked her what she thought about the higher gas prices.

She declared that she only used her car to drive to and from work and maybe to the store but where she used to fill up every 10 days, now she has to fill up every 6 days. The fool with the microphone said it doesn’t work that way and the young lady said whatever and drove off.
As the idiot and the anchor desk were discussing how stupid the woman was and she needed to take some math lessons etc, it dawned on me that she was using her Grandfathers(?) theory of only buying what gas you needed, so when the price went went up, the gallons went down....

We’ve got them @ WAWA. I spend more time showing customers how to use them than actually preparing their order.

“Two workers per shift; to restock the cooking robot and mop the bathrooms.”

As an employer I would LOVE that ratio of staff to customers; though my customers are MUCH more demanding than the Lunch Bunch at Micky D’s. It’ll work in some segments, not all. Dammit! ;)

I would like this.

Type in my order, pay with a card, get a receipt with a number and get my food.

I don’t to speak, repeat and correct my order with an order taker.

Just let them read the screen, assemble the order and tell me it’s ready.

And for those who don’t use them often, it takes a few minutes to complete an order. Nice idea for a gas station, but not so much for a high volume place.

Off topic a bit, but has anyone else noticed that McDonald’s beef has changed and for the last couple of months, has sucked? Tastes like cardboard?

I worked in fast food when I was a kid. The bean counters at Corporate always look for ways to shave dollars, and always screw up the product in doing so. I've seen it over and over again. If I'm going to eat fast-food franchise chow, it'll always be the newer ones. The accountants haven't screwed them up yet.

Will we be able to touch our buns on the screen to make sure they’re fresh?

Bad idea. Burgers wil be too expensive. Cost for creativity is too hgh for the average McDonald’s eater.

“Pink slime or pig snouts.”

Pig snouts in gourmet restaurants is $30 a plate. Much more reasonable at Mickey D’s.

They should charge less, not more. People are cheap and will walk past the kiosks to save two cents.

“IN NJ we have something called WAWA....”

The ones over here in PA stopped using Amoroso’s rolls. They now “bake” them in the store. They are raw dough with a crust. The WORST hoagies I’ve ever had.

I buy gas there if it’s cheap enough, I will never go inside again.
