Here’s my stereotype of Great Britain: Really bad teeth, drunks, welfare queens, and Muslims.

The Chicago area is usually identified with Al Capone, but I see now Obama has taken his place.

Dunno bout that. But last time I was in Boston I was truly impressed at what an absolute dump it is. But that’s just me.

“not Irish but was enslaved by them. Except he didn’t want reparations or riots...”

As for this country (US) I’d rather have them rioting and begging than evangelizing voodoo...enough of that going already.

Somebody needs a geography lesson: “Basically Canadian” appeared above the Northern Peninsula of Michigan, not Maine.

In my experience, the English do not understand and are generally hostile towards ethnic identity in the United States. The experience of white immigrants to the USA was largely shaped by their religions, which they retained and was a large part of their sense of community. The English gave up their ancient religion starting with Henry VIII and replaced it with some kind of civic religion of Englishness, and they are not really in tune with how much Christianity is taken seriously by Americans and affects our society. Relative to the US, it is a very secular country (excluding their Muslims of course!). So there’s a lot of Englishmen with Irish Catholic ancestors but relatively few of them retained the Catholic religion and as result they have lost touch with Irishness and have a non-comprehension of the completely different experience of the “fake Irish” they are mocking. At least that’s how I see it! (All that said, the English are great!) (but not so much at soccer)

I one sense I agree with them: only fake Irish could have failed to see through the Kennedys and blindly continued to send them to Washington.

Why would anyone want to pretend to be Irish? It makes no sense.

There is a segment of Boston that is fake English people, aka Wannabee English.

There are no Irishmen or Englishmen who are fake or Wannabee Bostonians, however. What does that tell you?
