“An 80-year-old cancer survivor and Army veteran says that he fears for his life after being beaten, bloodied and left with broken bones by police.”
Doesn’t matter ... LEO’s interpret the law the way they see fit and their department backs them up.
I’ve been a life-long supporter of the police, but no more. They should be worried that people like me no longer trust them.
As far as I’m concerned we should reduce police forces by half & take away THEIR guns!
I grew up in a small town which had about the same size police dept. as Mayberry. Maybe one or two more but certainly not over 4 or 5.
That was back in the 60s. The town is still just about exactly the same population but every time I drive there, I see several cop cars. There must be 20 or more. Of course some are sheriff’s deputies but same situation. Only a few back then, and now a fleet of cars.
I guess the people want them because they think it provides security but I sure don’t think it does.
If I live in IN, and have a black eye and a dead officer at my feet, they can try to back him up all they want. It ain’t gonna work. We need Indiana’s law in all 50 states.
These days you just don’t know if the police are being honest, embellishing or flat out fabricating out of whole cloth. Their account of what happened sounds plausible - crotchety old man gets overly belligerent and has to be subdued, but who knows. Perhaps their is video/audio.
An 80 year old man doesn’t “[have] to be subdued”.
A little bit of empathy, patience, and common sense would have diffused the situation.
They escalated it.
“...yanked Bill Swan off his tractor because he refused to get off when they ordered him to, then he tried to run over the officers”
LOL. I like Mr. Swan. My kinda guy.
“refused to get off”
Translation: Mr. Swann, being 80 and hard of hearing, didn’t hear the officers.
“tried to run over the officers”
Translation: The officers, devoid of common sense, stepped in front of the tractor. Mr. Swann continued operating the tractor at a normal pace, assuming the officers had the common sense to step out of the way of a moving vehicle and not hearing their orders to stop the tractor and dismount.
I absolutely have no use for police, except maybe directing traffic.
Yes. And when the case goes to court, the officer’s “Esablished credibility” trumps the defendants testimony.
Bad hearing and the noise of a tractor. No wonder he couldnt hear the commands. But that 80 yr old man was able to fight the cops, go for the gun, try to back into the patrol car and try to run over officers? He needs to bottle whatever he takes once he wins his millions from the police department.
Like those cops in Buffalo who shot 29 something dogs and one cop the majority all under correct procedures .... like wrong house etc .....
Wake up, lady. This ain't the 1950s anymore.
Ping.
The old people beatings and dog shootings are why Ferguson animals hassling cops doesn’t bug me like it would have, many years ago.
