VENTURA, Calif. (CN) - A 2-year-old boy was burned by a police smoke bomb in a terrifying "no knock" raid at the wrong home, his family claims in court. The boy's parents, Jose and Paulina Salinas, sued the City of Oxnard and its Police Department in Superior Court on Monday.

****

As police approached one of the bedrooms, Paulina Salinas and her two older children told officers there was a 2-year-old in the room. Police ignored them, told them to cover their ears, and threw a smoke bomb into the room as 2-year-old Justin Salinas stood near the door.

No one in their right mind, on hearing "there is a two year old in the room" throws a "smoke bomb" in the room.

Period.

Somehow...i really dont think my ancestors started a fight with their English overlords to end up with a country where the police make the Redcoats look like boy scouts.

The Pinkertons chucked a firebomb into the James home, killing a half-brother and taking-off Ma James’ arm.
They probably thought there might be some dogs in or under the house, because it burned to the ground.

That police officer needs to be fired and held criminally liable.

Only a depraved person would not check to see if a child was on the premises.

The police screwed up because no one thought to check to see if the previous tenants - who had outstanding warrants - still lived there.

I have feeling the Oxnard taxpayers will take it on the chin because the head of the SWAT team failed to do his job and the cops didn’t bother doing their homework before they broke in and terrorized an innocent family for nothing.

There is such a thing as Dumb Cops.

In this case, the judge who signed the warrant to search....needs to be brought up on charges and spend some time in jail. I think once we start with the real “problem”, things will suddenly start to get cleaned up. These screwed-up search warrants don’t just magically happen....there’s always a judge involved. He needs to be held responsible, and I think the guy ought to be forced to come out and walk through the entire search as the cops execute it.

Unless the Sherriff was elected, the Mayor gets the blame.
Somehow Mayors are excluded. How does that work?

Is there a such thing as a SWAT raid without mistakes being made? When you get a bunch of overgrown kids playing dress up soldiers with real guns, real smoke bombs and other dangerous toys, they are going to screw up, and otherwise do stupid acts of senseless violence. It is unavoidable. It’s bad under any circumstances, but worse when done at the wrong address, which happens as often as not. Just remember, when it comes to SWATs, we are the enemy.

The second amendment not only recognizes the inherent right to bear arms it also, obviously, authorizes militias. A militia should be formed to hunt down and destroy the cops who did this.

We need to take away from the cops:

Full auto rifles
MRAPs
Hi-cap mags

And they should all wear vid cams that can’t be manually shut off.
